The Kardashians' Best Home-Organization & Cleaning Hacks

Pull up any episode from the past, oh, three or four seasons of Keeping Up with the Kardashians and mute the television. Do you see it? Look past the drama. Ignore the fact that the sisters have spent two or three hours sitting in their glam rooms, and zero in on their homes. Not one item is out of place. There’s zero clutter, and each room is picture-perfect pristine.

It isn’t just the nannies, assistants and the whole crew of people who follow them around that are keeping their homes squeaky-clean. Kim Kardashian West, Khloé Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian are clean freaks. Not only that, but they’re the queens of organization. And we could all learn a thing or two from them.

“It’s very therapeutic for me,” Kourtney told Vogue in January 2016. “If I’m feeling overwhelmed, I don’t like to cook or go out to relax, I prefer to clean out the closets or organize the living room. It makes me feel like my life is more in control.”

Behold: Kim, Kourtney and Kim’s best home-organization and cleaning tips.

The closet

From uniform hangers to organizing items by color, organize your closet by category, because, as Kourtney told Vogue, everything should have its own place and its own home.

“Divide your clothes up into categories: for shoes, you can have all flat shoes together, sneakers together, flip-flops together, then heels, booties, high boots, thigh-high boots, et cetera,” Kourtney said. “This just makes your closet look so much better, even if it’s slightly messy. It will never look that crazy if you constantly have a place for everything to put it back right where it came from each time.”

For Khloé, she organizes her leggings by length and in sections: prints on one side, solids on the other. “Every time I walk by I’m like, OK, motivated… should get my ass to the gym,” she said in one of her Khlo-C-D videos posted on March 2016.

And if cleaning out your closet is daunting, invite a friend over to help put things into perspective — as in tell you to ditch that dress you’ve been holding onto for five years and wore once.

“I always have my friend Scotty, who does my hair, come over, and he’ll push me to get rid of things so I’m not wasting my time sifting through and not purging the right items,” Kourtney says.

Zhoosh up your jewelry

Khloé is so dedicated to keeping her jewelry organized and tangle-free, she posted an entire video about it.

In the November 2015 Khlo-C-D video, Khloé advised placing jewelry in little bags to keep them separated. Another idea is to use 4-by-6-inch plastic storage containers to store jewelry and tape photos of the each individual piece of jewelry onto the container. That way you can see what’s inside.

Having these containers makes traveling a breeze too. Simply swap out jewelry and place the jewelry you want to take with you, and travel with that container.

For sunglasses, buy a plastic bin from Amazon, ditch all the sunglasses cases, and organize the sunglasses in the box.

Kourtney’s kitchen tips

Kourtney knows how to keep a kitchen clean and tidy.

For starters, make sure every utensil and tool is in its proper place — and be strategic about where you store items.

“When I was reorganizing the kitchen not too long ago, I really wanted to walk through and say, ‘Okay, if I’m standing at the stove and I need to grab a ladle, where is the best place to keep it so it’s handy?’ or ‘If I’m making tea, where do I want the teacups so they are easy to grab when the water boils?’” she said.

Kourtney prefers to keep everything off the counter too, both in the kitchen and in the bathroom.

“Most people keep their knives out, but I decided to put them in a wooden block inside a child-locked drawer. I put all the appliances together in one cabinet, since I don’t even leave the toaster or blender out,” she says. “I do like to leave the kids’ place settings and utensils out, though, because I like that they can just grab things when they need it. It teaches them to do things for themselves and be responsible for their own dishes.”

Keep all the cleaning supplies out of the kitchen too — save for the counter wipes. Kourtney keeps them in caddies in the laundry room for easy transportation.

“Each one has all the cleaning stuff you’d need for any kind of mess around the house, so you can just pick it up and go,” she said. “I like to buy these kinds of things in bulk, because when you run out, it’s nice to just have another one there ready to add to the caddy.”

While we’re on the topic of cleaning…

Keeping it clean with Kim & Khloé

Kim and Khloé have an endless list of cleaning tips and hacks.

For instance, for makeup stains, Kim swears by shaving cream.

“Just apply to the stain and then lightly wet or wash,” Kim said on her blog in August 2017. “If the stain still won’t come out, you can also use a drop of rubbing alcohol mixed with the shaving cream. The stain should lift out easily.”

For deodorant stains, rub a clean pair of nylon stockings on the stain, and it should disappear. You can also use a sponge, Beautyblender or a dryer sheet, she explains.

Khloé also insists on cleaning your jewelry often — with ketchup.

“After washing them with dishwashing soap and a toothbrush, try a squirt of ketchup. It’s totally miraculous how shiny it gets everything, even silverware and tarnished pots,” she wrote on her now-defunct blog in March 2018.

In the kitchen, Khloé swears by soaking a nontoxic and biodegradable dryer sheet in your dirty pots and pans to make baked-on food disappear.

Moving on to the living room, the two biggest headaches are probably pesky pet hair and the endlessly dusty ceiling fans. Khloé’s tip for pet hair is honestly genius. “Use a squeegee on your couch or carpet,” she says. “You’ll get such a sick satisfaction from all of the dust and hair that immediately comes up.”

And for ceiling fans, place a pillowcase over the entire blade as you wipe it down. This will contain the dust and keep it from settling on the furniture and floor below.

“Such a simple but good trick!” she wrote.
