The Paratas have been struggling to make ends meet since showing up in the Bay. Although Gemma (Bree Peters) has a job at the Diner now, she won’t be paid in time to pay their motel bill. Ari (Rob Kipa-Williams) is also unable to get cleared for work due to his arm injury.
When Marilyn (Emily Symons) catches Gemma stealing food on the job so she can feed Nikau (Kawakawa Fox-Reo), she is sympathetic to the Parata’s plight and suggests that the family moves in with her and John (Shane Withington) for a while.
Gemma’s pride stops her from accepting the offer, but she realises that she has a kind friend in Marilyn. Meanwhile, John is irritated by his wife’s willingness to do anything for the Paratas, and he makes it clear to Ari that he doesn’t want him around.
The family’s troubles get worse when they return to the motel room to see their belongings dumped outside and the door locked. They’ve been evicted after not paying the bill! With no roof over their heads, they are forced to sleep in their car.
As the family sets up bedsheets in the vehicle, Ari is left feeling he has failed his family yet again. Will he be able to find a way out of this mess, or are they going to be homeless for the foreseeable future?
