Home and Away has become the latest soap to halt production in the interest of safety amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The residents of Summer Bay have told to stay home and self-isolate, as the Covid-19 outbreak has caused numerous logistical issues making it difficult to continue.
Production company Seven in Australia announced the news today, and said in a statement (via TV Tonight): ‘Seven Studios advised today that it would halt filming of Home and Away immediately.
‘It confirmed that no cast or crew had tested positive for COVID-19, but that the decision was made due to the increasing logistical hurdles related to the COVID-19 situation.’
It is not currently known when they are due to resume filming, or how this will impact scheduling, with soaps including EastEnders cutting back to two episodes a week.
However, Neighbours, which is also filmed in Aus, resumed filming after only four days – taking time to put in place ‘strict protocols’ which includes the removal of intimate and kissing scenes to stop the virus spread.
The move is a similar approach to the one being taken by UK soap Coronation Street.
Meanwhile, Casualty, Holby City, River City, Doctors and Pobol y Cwm have ceased productions in the interest of safety.
