Daisy appeared on This Morning today to show viewers how to plant carrots, potatoes, herbs, and other vegetables ahead of Christmas. The gardening expert demonstrated how you can sow potato seeds even if you don’t have a garden.

“It’s the perfect time to start planting,” Daisy said from her garden in Gloucestershire.

“It’s not too late to grow your own veg for Christmas day.”

The TV gardener recommended starting with “seed potatoes”.

She said: “These seed potatoes are important because they’ve been made sure that they don’t have any nasty diseases or anything like that.

“These have been chitted and you can get Grow Bags like these, which are fantastic.”

Grow Bags can be bought in garden centres and are “really good” for small spaces and balconies, Daisy explained.

She went on to demonstrate how to plant the potatoes, saying: “Fill it [the bag] to about half way, pop your potatoes in with all the little spikes at the top.

“You can probably fit about three or four into a grow bag like this one.

“Then fill it up to the top with some peat free compost.

“And then as they start to grow – as they start to sprout – keep earthing them up.”

Daisy advised adding compost on top of the potatoes as they grow to make sure no light gets to them.

She added: “And then come Christmas, we’ll all be able to eat our own potatoes from the garden.

“It’s such a lovely feeling when you’ve grown them yourself.”

Daisy assured viewers “if you put them in now, you will have some beautiful little potatoes that will be perfect for roasting”.

“If you do it this weekend you’ll be just in time,” she added.

The gardening expert then went on to explain how to plant the perfect accompaniment to potatoes: rosemary.

She said: “This is just the right time to get planting your rosemary – they work really well in pots.

“Make sure you’ve added some grit into your peat free compost.

“Rosemary hates having really damp roots.

“So, if you have got a sunnier spot in your garden, pop your rosemary up there, plant it up, and then you can give it a nice bit of trimming and bring it inside when you’re picking your potatoes this Christmas – or throughout autumn for your roasts.”

Daisy added: “So there’s your herbs – it’s a really good time to get those in while it’s still warm this autumn.”
