Stomach bloating: Drinking a cup of this tea may ease excessive wind and bloating

Bloating usually happens when excess gas builds up in the stomach or intestines. The condition is an ongoing struggle for many and happens when gas clogs up a person’s gastrointestinal tract. When bloating occurs right after a meal, it usually resolves itself, but it is often possible to speed up the process. According to studies, drinking wormwood tea could help stimulate the release of digestive juices, which may help relieve bloating and digestive issues.

Wormwood is a leafy, green herb that makes a bitter tea and can be consumed to help alleviate symptoms of bloating and excessive gas.

The bitterness of wormwood makes it an acquired taste, however, the health benefits makes it a highly recommended herb to add to one’s diet.

Adding lemon juice or honey to the tea makes it easier to drink. There are also supplements and spices made of the biter herb that a person could take to help support digestion.

In a study with the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, bitter tasting plants were investigated.

The study noted that wormwood increases tonus in the vascular resistance vessels.

It said: “Wormwood facilitate rather than stimulate digestive activity when postprandial hyperaemia is inadequate.”

Human studies suggest that one gram capsules of dried wormwood may prevent or relieve indigestion or discomfort in the upper abdomen.

In another study with the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, wormwood was found to help kill parasites in the stomach.

Parasites in the belly is a known cause for bloating, however, more research is needed. 

Wormwood is used for various digestion problems such as loss of appetite, upset stomach, gall bladder disease, and intestinal spasms.

The herb is also used to treat fever, liver disease, depression, muscle pain, memory loss and worm infections.

Wormwood oil contains the chemical thujone, which excites the nervous system.

To make wormwood tea, use one tablespoon of the dried herb per cup of 240 ml of boiled water, steeping for five minutes.

Experts advise that pregnant women shouldn’t use wormwood due to it’s thujone contents.

This is due wormwoods abilities to cause uterine contractions.
