While on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky, Sir Cliff Richard spoke about his longevity in the music industry. Back with his latest festive offering, Christmas With Cliff, the star shared: “The record company requested a Christmas album. “And I thought, ‘well, I haven’t done one for years.’ I didn’t realise it was nearly 20 years ago.”

On the album there are nine classics, and “three new ones”. Sir Cliff said: “That’s where the single comes from. It’s just an exciting time.”

His new single, Heart Of Christmas, will feature on the new Christmas album, which Sir Cliff said was “a thrill to do”.

On his lengthy career, Sir Cliff said: “Next year is going to be my 65th year.”

Revealing his secret to longevity, the Move It singer said: “I follow a regime of eating.”

Clarifying that “it’s not really a diet”, Sir Cliff said: “I just eat quite well these days, but I only eat what I’m supposed to eat.”

Sir Cliff elaborated: “I have to give up certain things that I loved before, but there are so many vegetables and different things I can eat, that I do.”

A healthy diet is a key staple when warding off disease, which includes “a wide range of foods”, the NHS says.

Men are recommended to eat 2,500 calories a day whereas women should have around 2,000 calories a day.

It doesn’t matter whether they are fresh, frozen, canned, dried, or juiced.

Do not, however, have more than one glass of fruit juice per day, as these drinks are sugary.

For meat eaters, oily fish – once a week – is key, which includes:

  • Salmon
  • Trout
  • Herring
  • Sardines
  • Pilchards
  • Mackerel.

The NHS recommends cutting down on:

  • Fatty cuts of meat
  • Sausages
  • Butter
  • Hard cheese
  • Cream
  • Cakes
  • Biscuits
  • Lard
  • Pies.

Sir Cliff added: “I’ve played tennis for many years, and that sort of keeps me fit. So those are the only tips I can give you.”

The NHS says exercise is the miracle cure that people have been waiting for – it is deeply helpful in preventing disease.

By leading an active lifestyle and eating a healthy diet, you’re more likely to live well into your golden years.
