Scrubs’ Sam Lloyd Hits Fundraising Goal After Revealing Lung Cancer and Brain Tumor Diagnosis

Sam Lloyd is feeling “overwhelmed” by the outpouring of love and support after revealing that he has lung cancer and a brain tumor.

The former Scrubs actor, 55, shared the difficult news — which comes just weeks after he and his wife Vanessa welcomed their first child together, son Weston — on a GoFundMe page set up to help with his medical care. And within just 48 hours, they exceeded their fundraising goal of $100,000.

Lloyd thanked all of the 3,000-plus donors who chipped in to help on Wednesday night.

“To all the amazing, kind, and generous people who have reached out to me in the past 48 hours… my family would like to reach out to you,” he wrote. We are immeasurably grateful for the prayers, blessings, outpouring of support and LOVE, as well as the immense generosity from our family, friends, neighbors, my Scrubs family, and people we have never even met.”

The new dad said that he and Vanessa read through the “incredible” messages together.

“Our eyes filled with tears and our hearts filled with gratitude. I am overwhelmed. And I am beyond grateful to all of you,” he said.

Former costars Zach Braff and Donald Faison shared Lloyd’s GoFundMe page on their Twitter accounts and encouraged people to donate.

“Tragic news from our beloved Sam (aka, Ted the Lawyer),” Braff wrote. “I will of course be getting involved. Please send him your love.”

Lloyd also updated everyone on his medical plan moving forward.

“We are working on a treatment plan with a wonderful group of doctors by our side,” he said. “We sympathize with the many people who have gone through, and are going through, similar battles. We will remain prayerful and will always believe in miracles that happen every day.”

Lloyd learned of his brain tumor midway through January, after dealing with regular headaches and an unexplained weight loss. At first the doctor thought the issue was sinus-related and ordered a CT scan, but found that the problem was far more severe.

“The scan revealed a mass on Sam’s brain. Within a day, he was in brain surgery,” friends of Lloyd explained on his GoFundMe page. “Unfortunately the tumor was too intertwined so the surgeons couldn’t remove it. By Sunday, Sam and Vanessa were informed that the cancer in his brain had metastasized from his lungs. Further scans showed the cancer was also in his liver, spine, and jaw.”

Lloyd’s friends said that he was in good spirits and cheered on his New England Patriots in the hospital (a little too loudly, according to the nurses), as they figure out how to move forward with his treatment.
