“And I have a little bit of a cough and a slight case of asthma. And to add to that I have a propensity to be a bit chesty… I think I have a mild case of long Covid.”
The NHS says the long-term effects of Covid, classified as symptoms that linger for more than 12 weeks, are considered to be a health condition in its own right – long Covid.
Long Covid can lead to:
- Extreme tiredness (fatigue)
- Feeling short of breath
- Loss of smell
- Muscle aches.
The recovery period varies from person to person, but Lulu has faced and overcome other health issues in her lifetime.

Luckily, at the time when Lulu developed pneumonia, she was only 59, although the doctor told her that she “should have been thrown into hospital”.
Earlier in her life, when she was in her late 30s, Lulu had surgery on her vocal cords.
Fearing she wouldn’t be able to sing anymore, she “started working with vocal coaches and learned techniques to protect” her vocal instrument, she said.
