Luke Perry Dies Following Massive Stroke

Actor Luke Perry has died following a massive stroke, according to ET. He was 52.

A rep for Perry confirmed his death to the outlet, and provided the following statement:

“Actor Luke Perry, 52, passed away today after suffering a massive stroke. He was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiancé Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends. The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time.”

Perry was hospitalized last Wednesday after paramedics were called to his home in Sherman Oaks, California. He died Monday morning, according to TMZ.

Perry made a name for himself playing Dylan McKay on Beverly Hills: 90210. Starting in 2017, he became known for his role as Archie Andrews’ dad Fred on Riverdale. As the news of Perry’s stroke emerged, many of his current and former cast-mates reached out with messages of love and support.

A stroke occurs when blood supply to the brain is cut off. Nearly 800,000 people have strokes every year in the U.S., and approximately 140,000 of those cases are fatal.
