Jack P Shepherd, 33, began acting at the tender age of 12. He joined the cast of Coronation Street back in 2000 and has entertained audiences for almost two decades. Playing the ultimate villain has seen him numerous accolades for his talent but behind the scenes Jack has suffered with a condition which began to affect him mentally.

“I remember seeing myself on screen and thinking, ‘Oh my God, it is really falling out,’” the star revealed.

Shepherd continued: “I have had a few personal issues off-screen which have been stressful, and I am also an insomniac which just adds to my stress levels.”

The actor revealed due to his stressful life, hair loss became a reality for him.

“My hair loss was also affecting my mental health,” the star admitted.

The star said that the hair loss had a major impact on his mental health and prompted him to later get treatment.

Shepherd revealed that he even considered giving up acting and removing himself from the limelight entirely due to his lack of self-esteem and spiralling mental health.

However, following a successful transplant at the start of 2019, there has been a marked difference to his hairline.

 

Stress and hair loss

Stress can push hair follicles into a “resting” phase so that they don’t produce new hair strands.

Over time, hair can fall out more easily, even if you’re just washing, combing, or touching it.

Telogen effluvium also can be caused by poor nutrition and changes in hormone levels.

Hair loss due to stress is environmentally caused and may be more easily controlled if the stress can be managed.

You can’t always prevent stress from occurring in your life, but you can often minimise the amount of stress you experience, and when you cut down on stress in some areas, you have more energy to manage the stress that can’t be avoided, said Very Well Mind.
