Cancer symptoms: Six less known signs of the deadly disease you should definitely know

Cancer is a condition where cells in the body grow and reproduce uncontrollably. The cells can then invade and destroy surrounding healthy tissue and organs. Changes to the way your body normally processes – any unusual or unexplained changes – can sometimes be an early sign of cancer. If you experience any of the following, you should make an appointment to be checked out by your GP.

Cancer Research UK highlights some of the key symptoms to be aware of. Here are six.

Unexplained pain or ache

Pain is one way of our bodies telling us that something’s wrong. The cancer charity explains: “As we get older, it’s more common to experience aches and pains.

“But if you have unexplained, ongoing pain, or pain that comes and goes, make an appointment to see your doctor.”

Blood in poo

The most common cause of blood in poo is piles – also referred to as haemorrhoids. It warns: “But blood in your poo can sometimes be a sign of cancer.

“Your doctor wants to know if you spot blood when you go to the toilet.”

Blood in wee

This should always be reported to your doctor. It explains: “Usually this is not caused by cancer and can be treated quickly and easily, but it could be a sign of cancer.

“Your doctor will be able to tell you what the cause is.”

Unexplained weight loss

Small changes in your weight over time are considered normal.

But it advises: “If you lose a noticeable amount of weight without trying to, tell your doctor.”

Persistent bloating

Women often experience bloating, especially bloating that comes and goes. But it says: “If you feel bloated, most days, even if it comes and goes, make an appointment to see your doctor.”

Persistent heartburn or indigestion

Slight discomfort or pain is normal , especially after eating a large, fatty or spicy meal.

But it adds: “If you experience heartburn or indigestion a lot, or if it is particularly painful, then you should see a doctor.”

When it comes to the symptoms of prostate cancer, a man’s colour pee could be a sign.
