Rosie Miller, a London-based nutritionist who has almost 30k followers on Instagram, spoke with about the best supplements and vitamins to take at this time of year.

What supplements should you take in autumn and winter?

“Probiotics!” Rosie, a nutritionist for gut health brand Bio-Kult, replied. She said: “They are your first line of immune defense.

“They literally engulf pathogens and get them out of the body.

“Make sure you go for ones with multiple strains of live bacteria.”

What do probiotics do?

Probiotics are live bacteria and yeast that live in your body.

They are a version of the good bacteria that help your gut work properly.

Probiotics help to create vitamins in the body, and also balance the bacteria in the body, which stops you from getting sick.

What vitamins should you take in the autumn and winter?

Rosie said: “Vitamin D is key for the immune system. It has anti-inflammatory properties.

“Vitamin C is also very effective. It is water-soluble so safe to take in high dosages. 1 -2 grams per day reduces the onset and duration of a cold.

“It is great against infectious agents such as viruses.”

It is important to supplement with vitamin D, as it is hard to get enough of the sunshine vitamin during the low-light winter months.

For vitamin D eat oily fish, liver, and red meat.

It is also advisable to take vitamin C, A, and iron.

Health expert Dr. Rupy detailed the healthy food that could be causing stomach bloating. 

Dr. Rupy Aujila, the founder of The Doctor’s Kitchen, told bloating can be caused by attempting to eat better.

“Unfortunately, a lot of healthier ingredients can be indicated as a cause of bloating, particularly if you’re transitioning from a low fibre diet to a high fibre diet,” the health professional said.

Fermented foods such as kimchi can also cause bloating.
