Anna Kendrick Thanks Doctors and Nurses After Hospitalization for Kidney Stones: ‘I’m So Grateful’

Anna Kendrick is recovering after being hospitalized with kidney stones.

The actress, 33, opened up about her health ordeal on Twitter, while thanking the doctors and nurses who cared for her at an Atlanta hospital.

“So, I need to give a shout out to the Atlanta doctors and nurses who helped me through my first experience with kidney stones when I was at my most vulnerable and terrified,” she tweeted on Friday. “Especially the truly wonderful ladies: Renee, Sandra, Muriel, Beverly, Ashley, Nina, Callie.”

Kendrick gave a special shout out to one staff member who appreciated her pre-sedation humor.

“And the young woman whose name started with “L”?? I can’t remember… in fairness, you were one of the people giving me the heavy s— right before I went under… but you laughed at my tired a– ‘If I die, clear my search history’ joke and I appreciate that,” she said.

The Simple Favor star said that she didn’t know how severe the problem was at first.

“I was worried that my pain would turn out to be ‘nothing serious’ or something that I should have been able to fight through,” she said. “I’m so grateful to these women. Even if we only interacted for a moment, know that the attention and kindness you give your patients is so appreciated.”

Kidney stones are hard clumps of minerals and salt that form in the kidneys, causing severe pain, according to the Mayo Clinic. Typically afflicted people have to simply wait out a kidney stone until they pass through the urinary system and can take medication to manage the pain, but in some cases they require surgery.

There’s no one cause of kidney stones and several different factors, including family history, urinary tract infections and diet, can lead to the painful issue.

Kendrick said in 2015, just before she turned 30, that she’s working on making healthier food choices.

“I’ve been trying to be more healthy, and oh, it’s the worst,” she jokingly told Ellen DeGeneres. “The worst part is I feel so much better. Like, that’s the worst part … it works! … I was really hoping that I would just do it as an experiment and I would feel the same and I could just go back to eating Taco Bell whenever I wanted.”
