Food recalls are issued when a product is unsafe for customers to use. For example, if an item contains an ingredient not mentioned on the label, it could cause harm to someone with allergies.

Tesco is the latest supermarket to recall a food product this week.

The food retailer has issued an urgent recall on two types of salad cream.

Both Jack’s 50 percent Reduced Fat Salad Cream and Tesco’s 50 percent Less Fat Salad Cream are being recalled.

This is because they contain milk not mentioned on the label.

Therefore, the products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or constituents.

Jack’s salad cream comes in a pack 450ml in size and all batches are affected.

The best before dates affected are June 2022.

Tesco’s salad cream is the same – it comes in a pack 450ml in size and all batches are affected.

The best before dates affected are again June 2022.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) releases a statement every time a supermarket or company issues a food recall.

It usually gives advice to customers on what to do.

The FSA stated: “These products contain milk making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.”

It added: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents do not eat it.

“Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.

“No receipt is required.

“If you require further details, please contact customer services directly on 0800 505 555.”

Tesco also released a statement informing shoppers on what to do if they have bought the item.

The supermarket said: “Please do not eat this product if you have an allergy to milk, return the affected product to store where a full refund will be given.

“No receipt is required.”

The food retailer added: “Tesco apologises for any inconvenience caused. If you require further details, please contact Customer Services directly on 0800 505 555.”

Tesco is also recalling various Mr Porky products.

Mr Porky Original Scratchings, Mr Porky Crisp Strips, and Mr Porky Prime Cut Scratchings are all sold at the supermarket’s stores.

Customers are advised not to eat the products and to return them to their local shop for a full refund.

This is because they may contain salmonella.

Salmonella symptoms include diarrhoea, vomiting, and fever.

Customers should be warned that the products are sold in other supermarkets too – including Sainsbury’s and Aldi.
