Food recalls are issued when a product is unsafe for customers to use. For example, if an item contains an ingredient not mentioned on the label, it could cause harm to someone with allergies.

Sainsbury’s is the latest major supermarket to recall a food product due to it being unsafe to eat.

It is dangerous for customers with allergies to eat the product due to it containing an undeclared ingredient.

Sainsbury’s is withdrawing Nutrisure Ltd’s Naturya Hemp Protein Powder from its shelves because it contains gluten which is not mentioned on the label.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) stated on its website: “Nutrisure Ltd is recalling Naturya Hemp Protein Powder because it contains gluten, which is not mentioned on the label.

“This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to gluten.

“This batch was only sold in Sainsbury’s stores.”

Waitrose also sells Naturya Hemp Protein Powder but the affected batch was not available at its stores.

The product comes in a pack 100g in size and its batch code is W02135.

It also has a best before date of March 2024.

The FSA went on to explain: “Nutrisure Ltd is recalling the above product from customers.

“The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers.

“This notice explains to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”

In its notice, Nutrisure advised: “Any customer who has an allergy or intolerance to gluten and who has bought this batch of Hemp Protein Powder should return it to the retailer for a replacement or full refund.

“We apologise to customers for the inconvenience this may cause.

“If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us using any of the following routes.”

The routes included via email on [email protected], via the website Naturya.com, or via phone on +44 (0)1225 302 592.

Nutrisure added: “No other Naturya Hemp Protein Powder batches are affected by this issue.

“No other Naturya products are affected by this issue.”

The FSA also issued advice to consumers, saying: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to gluten, do not eat it.

“Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”
