Kate Middleton shares Prince Louis’ baking-inspired first word

Kate Middleton says Prince Louis ‘loves beetroot’

In 2019, Kate, Princess of Wales joined Mary Berry on BBC One for a one-off festive special A Berry Royal Christmas.

It was during this that the Princess revealed her youngest son’s first word – and it was baking inspired.

While little Prince Louis likely said “mama” or “dada” as his very first words – as many children do – an interesting foodie term may have quickly followed suit.

Kate said to culinary legend Mary Berry: “I have to tell you, one of Louis’ first words was his version of Mary, because right at his height are all our cooking books.

“And, you know, children are really fascinated by faces and your faces are all over your cooking books.

“And so he would say ‘that’s Mary Berry’, and so one of his first words was Mary.”

The proud royal mummy shared that Prince Louis would “definitely recognise” Mary Berry now, to which the famous baker replied that she was “flattered”.

Prince Louis was born on April 23, 2018, so would only have been around one and a half years old when the Christmas special aired.

However, Kate shared that her youngest child was already absolutely loving more grown-up foods.

She revealed that she loves to cook with her young ones – including Mary Berry’s delicious pizza dough recipe – and that the family also grow their own vegetables.

The royals grow carrots, beans and beetroot, with Kate telling Mary Berry that beetroot is a “massive favourite” of Prince Louis’.

Former Royal Chef Darren McGrady shared how fellow fans of the vegetable can make his delicious beetroot salad.

Despite having likely sampled some of the finest cuisine in the world, the youngest son of Kate and William is a fan of very non-royal desserts.

Royal fans went wild when Louis sampled a yummy s’more – a marshmallow sandwiched between two biscuits – at a Scout Hut.

As he tucked into the decadent treat, Prince William was heard saying “Oh my goodness, you’ve made his day”.

Kate Middleton has also spoken about Princess Charlotte’s refined tastebuds, while a famous chef remarked on Prince George’s favourite dish.
