Espresso martini named nation's favourite cocktail – here's how to make one

Margaritas, piña coladas and daiquiris can move aside.

The nation’s favourite cocktail has been revealed and it has a caffeinated kick, rather than a fruity one.

New data shows an espresso martini reigns supreme as the UK’s most popular cocktail choice – according to the Just Eat for Business’ Cocktail Championship.

The coffee-based cocktail was found to have the highest average rating compared to the number of reviews left on BBC Good Food – making it the standout favourite.

A mojito placed second, followed by a piña colada in third and a sex on the beach in fourth position.

The study also revealed that vodka is the most popular spirit, while citrus is the go-to fruit accompaniment in both alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks.

Research also showed that demand for black Russians and bloody marys is falling – as these drinks were reported as the lowest in the rankings.

This is slightly surprising considering a black Russian has a similar coffee and vodka make up to an espresso martini.

If you’re keen to try and make the nation’s favourite cocktail for yourself, we have two recipes below – one for traditionalists and another with a slight twist.
