ASDA are recalling a food item over safety fears, after it was found to possibly contain metal. Struik Foods Bunlimited Crispy Onions, which are sold at the national supermarket, have issued an urgent warning as this product may have small pieces of metal in it. The presence of the metal makes it unsafe to eat, and customers must be made aware. The item in question is 100g Bunlimited Crispy onions. Customers are being asked to look out for items with the best before date code of 11 June 2020.
ASDA food recall: Supermarket issues urgent warning over safety risk to customers
At present, no other ASDA products are known to be affected, however, if customers have purchased the above item they shouldn’t eat it under any circumstances.
The Foods Standards Agency released a statement explaining the action ASDA will be taking to protect their shoppers.
It read: “Struik Foods is recalling the above product. Point-of-sale notices have been displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product.
“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”
Customers who have purchased the item are being advised to return it to the store where they bought it and they’ll receive a full refund. No receipt is needed.
“We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused,” ASDA added in the store notice.

The FSA continued: “If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).
“The FSA issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food. In some cases, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers.”
This isn’t the only supermarket recall which has been issued this week.
Waitrose were made to remove an item from their shelves after it was found to contain an undeclared ingredient, posing a serious risk to allergy sufferers.
The supermarket issued an urgent warning for their Sour Cream and Chive Mix, as it contains which, which wasn’t mentioned on the packaging.
The specific item is the 150g Sour Cream and Chive Mix, and customers are being asked to look out for items with the best before date code of 21 December 2019.
A statement on the FSA read: “Waitrose is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.”
