TV presenter Jacquie Beltrao, 53, admits feeling 'pressured to look young' after £11k facelift as 'only men can get away with being fat, grey and wrinkly’

Jacquie Beltrao, 53, revealed she feels more confident watching herself on-air following the lift, adding if it prolongs her career "that is a bonus".

The Sky News star went under the knife in December to celebrate five years of being cancer free after she admitted chemotherapy had aged her appearance.

Jacquie underwent a six-hour op in December and returned to our screens three weeks later feeling "fresh" and "uplifted."

Jacquie said: "I am more confident and what I wanted to have done has definitely been achieved – I feel great and it really freshened up my face.

"I can do those questions into the camera and feel fine looking into the reverse picture. I did this for me but if it helps me prolong my career in any way, that is a bonus."

Jacquie, who presents sport bulletins on Sky News Sunrise, considered cosmetic surgery for several years before she had a lower facelift procedure at Harley Street Skin Clinic.

The former Olympic gymnast said while men can maintain a successful career without having to maintain their looks, women still face pressure to look younger on TV.

She said: "I think there is definitely pressure on women to look a certain way and try and look younger. You can have any number or men who are old, fat, grey, wrinkly – they are always going to have a job.

"If a female looked like that, probably not – it's not fair women are still judged on their looks.

"There are always going to be new people coming into the industry but this is more about feeling good about myself."

Jacquie was diagnosed with breast cancer on Christmas Eve in 2013 and underwent a mastectomy weeks later.

She said: "In January, I had my five year test for breast cancer. It was a very special moment for me and I thought I would celebrate the year.

"Five years is the time when you get released into the wild, it is a considerable milestone if you get to five years.

"[After my diagnosis] I took six months off work and the doctor then said you should have chemotherapy so I had five rounds of chemo after.

"It is a bit of a circle – you start off being quite bullish about it. But the day of chemo is not great and you feel full of nerves. By the fifth one, I was like 'Oh God' do I have to go through this again."

During her recovery, Jacquie was prescribed Tamoxifen – which helps stop breast cancer cells from growing – and said it left her feeling as though she 'looked like a ghost.'

Four years after treatment, Jacquie began to notice a difference when she looked at herself on camera.

She said: "It was only when I was looking back at my questions when I thought 'why can't I tighten up that right side?'

"You can faff around with fillers and strings but nothing ever stays permanent and you can end up looking plastic fantastic so I thought 'just go for it.'

The presenter was also inspired by her in-laws in Brazil who have also had cosmetic surgery and she often travels to visit them with her husband Eduardo.

She said: "His mum looks really young and so do his cousins – I don't know what she has had done but she is in her seventies and she looks incredible.

"So many people look fantastic over there and then you realise they are on their third face lift.

"Nobody judges like they do here – over there is is just something everybody does if they can afford it."

Jacquie underwent a six-hour op by Dr Hagen Schumacher and took three weeks off work to recover and found it difficult to speak due to her face being tightened.

She said: "It's a big procedure and I was really nervous – I didn't want to know much about what was involved.

"But I had been thinking about it for a few years and I did a lot of research.

"They take the skin off from the side of your face and the tissues and tighten them and cut underneath your ear.

"Then you wake up with a big bandage around your head.

"That is on for a night and then you have to wear a support bandage to keep everything in."

Just 20 days after surgery, Jacquie hosted a 21st birthday party for her daughter before returning to work before Christmas day.

She said the operation has boosted her confidence and she now feels fine watching herself on-air.
