The kids from You've Got Mail reunite 20 years on to share memories of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan

But do you remember the two kids in the 1998 Nora Ephron classic?

Hallee Hirsh, who was 10, played Annabelle, the daughter of Tom’s grandfather and five-year-old Jeffrey Scaperrotta played Tom’s much younger brother, Matt.

Fans will remember the pivotal scene when Jeffrey carefully spelt out his surname – “F-O-X” – alerting Meg to the fact that Tom was in fact a rival bookshop owner who had shut her down.

Two decades on the pair have reunited to take a trip down memory lane – and Jeffrey, 25, said the name-spelling scene is still fresh in fans’ mind.

He told TODAY: “A lot of people, when I tell them that I'm in the movie, that's all they ask me to do.

“Even now, 20 years later, they'll go, ‘F-O-X.’ I'm always the Fox kid.”

Hallee, now 30 and heavily pregnant, said: “I was obsessed with Meg Ryan.

“I wanted to be Meg Ryan when I grew up. And Tom Hanks was pretty well on my radar as well. So it was definitely, at that point in my life, the biggest win.

“I remember being at home and getting a phone call from my agent, and screaming and running around the house. And I think my mother was probably in tears.

“I have really lovely memories working with Tom Hanks.

“Tom Hanks is, like, a people person. He is like the type of person who knew everybody on set's name.”

The former child stars are both actors. Hallee has recently made the film Chasing the Rain and Jeffrey starred in Law and Order: Victim's Unit for 10 years, until 2009.

Jeffrey recalled filming the scene in which Joe (Tom Hanks) takes the kids to a local carnival.

“I didn't know I was actually filming just because of how friendly he was with me.

“I was on his shoulders for basically the whole entire time. Even after shooting, I was, like, still hanging on his shoulders, eating cotton candy, playing with the carnival games.”

Hallee’s most memorable scenes was actually cut.

She said: “The scene was shot in this incredible Vietnamese restaurant which doesn't exist anymore. And I just remember this bowl of pho that we had to eat all day long during that scene.

“I'm sobbing at Tom Hanks because he put Meg Ryan's store out of business. And I remember having to cry all day long.”

Another adorable scene saw Annabelle singing Tomorrow from Annie, off-key.

But Hallee revealed she was actually been training as a singer for five years and had almost landed the role of Cosette in Les Miserable – but director Nora asked her to sing badly.

She said: “All day long during this Christmas scene I had been belting out ‘Tomorrow.’

“For my last take, during my close-up, Nora Ephron said, ‘Just for fun, do this one, like, off-key and out of rhythm. Like, sing it like someone who doesn't know how to sing.’ I was like, 'Oh, my gosh, that'd be so fun.' So I did it. And that was the one they used.”
