Royal fans split over whether 'touchy-feely' Prince Harry and Meghan Markle should save their tactile royal tour displays for in private

But Mumsnet users have been left split over their tactile behaviour in public, with some calling it “sweet” and others saying it has become too much for them.

The thread was started by a mum venting her frustration with Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, frequently touching each other during public engagements.

She said: “I think she is beautiful and he seems like a nice chap. I wish them a long and happy life with their child/ren.

“But for the love of God, could they stop holding hands – they're not on a date, they're carrying out official business! Makes me cringe, so it does.”

Many mums rushed to the defence of the loved-up couple, and said they are acting like any other newlyweds would.

One user wrote: “I think it's sweet and doesn't bother me, they are newly weds after all.”

Another added: “Newlyweds holding hands. What next!! Let them enjoy it while they can. There will be plenty of rough days ahead.”

Meanwhile a Mumsnet user wrote: “I think it is lovely and I also thought it was lovely that Harry was fine with the little boy hugging him the other day, which is also against normal royal protocol. I have seen a lot worse at work over the years than holding hands.”

However, some mums agreed with the poster, and said they wish the couple could slightly tone down the PDA.

One person wrote: “The Queen and Philip managed to keep the Royal Family respected and admired without holding hands on public engagements, don't see why Meghan and Harry can't follow suit.”

And another user: “Just comes across as immature and unnecessary.”

And one added: “I'm with you op. The pair of them seem to think they're featuring in a Calvin Klein ad. Its all just a bit posey isn't it. Just walk around, shake hands with people. There's no need to be hanging onto each other constantly.”

Etiquette expert William Hanson weighed in on the debate and gave his opinion on Twitter.

In response to whether the couple should save their tactile time for alone time, he wrote: “Yes, they jolly well should!

“Have said it so many times before, it's unprofessional, crass and getting so tedious.

“You're on a work trip, not a holiday. Thrilled you're both in love: we know, we were there.”
