Rochelle Humes defends Kim Kardashian for straightening four-year-old daughter North’s hair saying she ‘probably made her little girl’s day’

But Rochelle Humes, who ditched her own hair straighteners last year, has defended the reality star and said that she “probably made her little girl’s day".

Rochelle made the decision to keep her hair in its naturally curly state for the sake of her five-year-old daughter, Alaia-Mai, last December, but said she felt sorry for Kim’s backlash.

Speaking to Fabulous Online, she said: “I felt a little bit for Kim with that [for straightening her daughter’s hair] because I remember bugging my mum for the same.

“Any person who’s either got a daughter or a son with curly hair, or they have curly hair themselves, that is always a question you’re going to ask out of curiosity – what would it look like?

“I felt sorry for her [Kim] because she probably made her little girl’s day, and she probably loved that.”

The singer and presenter, 29, made the decision to go au natural with her hair when little Alaia-Mai said she couldn’t possibly be a Disney princess because of the curly hair she disliked so much.

Since making the change, Rochelle has been named John Frieda’s curly hair ambassador and is passionate about encouraging people to embrace their locks as they are.

Rochelle said: “Obviously, it’s amazing to embrace your natural hair, and that’s what I’m teaching my kids to do and that’s what I want them to do, and they are doing that which is amazing."

However she said that she won't stop her own daughter from straightening her own hair when she is older.

Rochelle added: “Curiosity is always going to be there, and it’s important to show people that you can do that – I’ll always prefer my daughter with curly hair but I’m not going to stop her from being curious – I’d be a hypocrite!”

Rochelle admitted that her daughter was shocked when she first saw her untamed curly hair.

She revealed: “She didn’t believe I had curly hair so she thought we had different hair! But she’s so happy now and weirdly now obsessed with having curly hair.

“We’ll be in the supermarket and she says to me ‘Mummy look at that girl over there hasn’t she got lovely hair’, and I’d turn around and the girl’s got long curly hair. I was like ‘yes!’ – a step in the right direction, which is great.”

Rochelle shared how Alaia-Mai is going into Year One at school this month and how the tot is so excited to get into the classroom.

She said: “I just can’t believe how grown up she is. And I feel fine because she’s so ready – she did reception and loved it and is desperate to get back.

“The pencil case has been perfected, we’ve got everything in there; we’re fully ready – names are sewn on uniforms – she’s just desperate to go!”

With their busy radio and TV careers and raising two daughters – they also have one-year-old Valentina – Rochelle said life at home is very busy.

She admits she’s had to cut down on her hair and beauty time, but has found some very handy, time-saving hacks.

The star, who swears by sleeping in coconut oil hair masks to maintain her incredible locks, said: “Well, this is the brilliant thing for me about having my curls out it has cut out so much time.

“Now it’s basically cut my time in half – I just sort of scrunch it, tip my head upside down, diffuse it and I’m ready, which is a miracle.

“It’s made my husband’s life a lot happier as well, he hates waiting for me. It’s a win win!”

She may be rushed off her feet, but she still prioritises time to hang with the rest of the gang from The Saturdays – Frankie Bridge, Una Healy, Mollie King and Vanessa White.

Rochelle said: “It’s so funny, we are literally on our WhatsApp group even this morning, trying to find a day that we can all do. We’re all messaging saying 'we need a catch up!'

“So hopefully, we have said in the next two weeks – we are just trying to finalise our dates, but yeah we’ll go for dinner and catch up.”

Sadly we shouldn’t be holding our breath for any more music from the popular girl group anytime soon.

She said: “No, at the minute we can barely get in a catch up meal together, so I don’t know how a reunion would be – we’re so busy!

“But when we get together, there’s nothing on the agenda other than catching up, having cocktails and chatting about old times. It’s never about performing.”
