Rare throwback snap of Princess Diana with her young sons shared by Kensington Palace after Prince William announces new patronage

After visiting the charity with mother, Princess Diana in 1993, Kensington Palace has today released two sweet throwback snaps of the royals' visit.

William first visited with Diana at 10 years old, but has made several additional visits over the past 25 years.

In 2016, the Duke even gave a speech explaining just how important the charity is to him.

"The visits I made as a child to this place left a deep and lasting impression upon me – about how important it is to ensure that everyone in our society, especially the poorest, are treated with respect, dignity and kindness, and are given the opportunities to fulfil their potential in life," he said.

And after Kensington Palace announced the patronage this morning, they also shared some adorable throwback images – one of Diana, William and Harry visiting the charity and the other, a poignant snap of the visitor's book, signed by Diana and William in December 1993.

And royal fans have been gushing over the sweet images all afternoon, with one tweeting: "Great to see The Duke of Cambridge following his mother's example and supporting this vital charity."

While another wrote: "Fantastic…how lovely he is picking up the work his mother started."

One royal fan even called Will an "inspiration".

"This is so great! He is such an inspiration," they tweeted.

Prince William has spent the day helping volunteers prepare and serve lunch at the charity, as well as meeting clients and volunteers from Passage's ‘Home for Good’ Programme.

The scheme supports people in moving on from their experience in being homeless and helps them settle into new homes.

Mick Clarke, Chief Executive of The Passage said: “During His Royal Highness’ visits to The Passage, it has been very clear that he has a deep concern for those affected by homelessness and a real interest in our work.

"For His Royal Highness to further express his support for The Passage’s work by becoming our Royal Patron is a tremendous honour, and a testament to how much he genuinely cares about this issue.”

Earlier this week, we told you ‘upset’ Prince Harry ‘complained’ William was always the centre of attention, claims royal author.

We also revealed Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton are not princesses because of Camilla Parker Bowles, says royal historian.

And we showed you how pregnant Meghan Markle tried to avoid cradling her baby bump to appear ‘confident and resilient’ amid dad drama, body language expert claims.
