Princess Diana was the first royal to give birth in a hospital – but will Meghan Markle follow her lead?

On June 21, 1982, Princess Diana broke with tradition to give birth to Prince William at the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital.

This made little Prince William the first heir to the throne to not be born at home.

Princess Diana also selected the famous wing for the birth of her second son, Prince Harry, and Kate Middleton has used the same spot for the delivery of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

And just yesterday, heavily pregnant Pippa Middleton reportedly arrived at the £7,500-a-night Lindo Wing maternity unit.

So will Meghan Markle follow suit when her baby is due next spring?

The Sun’s Royal Correspondent Emily Andrews said: “It’s fantastic news that the Duchess of Sussex is pregnant and past her 12 weeks stage.

“I understand the Queen, Prince Philip, Charles and Camilla were delighted when the couple told them.

“Meghan’s mum Doria was also over the moon at the prospect of her first grandchild.

“Meghan and Harry’s baby is due in the spring and I’d imagine she would be having it at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s hospital where Kate had George, Charlotte and Louis.

“Harry himself was also born there.

“Meghan will most likely be under the care of Guy Thorpe-Beeston and Alan Farthing, who helped deliver Prince Louis in April.”

Prince Harry was born a week early in 1984, and Princess Diana is said to have read a book for the first six hours of her nine-hour labour, while husband Prince Charles napped in a chair next to the bed.

During the labour, Princess Diana is said to have sucked an ice cube to prevent dehydration, while a nurse rubbed cream on her chapped lips, according to People.

When she gave birth in the Lindo Wing, Kate Middleton had a team of 20 medical professionals dedicated to her care, who were all sworn to secrecy.

INSIDE THE LAVISH LINDO WING – LOVED BY THE ROYALS

The exclusive wing provides a premium service for expectant and new mothers, with all patients given a private room with an en suite, which comes with phones and fridges.

Deluxe rooms or suites are also available for anyone willing to fork out – and it’s thought Kate gave birth in one of these.

There are in-room services for new mums including massages, and there’s also a supervised nursery so you drop off your new-born while you indulge.

The wing also offers satellite TV with major international channels as well as radio, WiFi and newspapers.

They have extensive menus and can cater for any dietary requirement, and there’s also a wine list – with champagne – to accompany it.

If you’re still hungry, there’s also an afternoon tea service.

Prices start at £5,900-per-night for a standard room, while a deluxe will set you back £6,275.

Mum Ana Klemencic Cabuk revealed what it is like to give birth in the Lindo Wing.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's first child is next year, but the couple are yet to reveal the exact date.

Kensington Palace announced the news yesterday, five months after the couple married at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.

The confirmation came after weeks of fan speculation about a potential pregnancy.

Etiquette expert reveals pregnant Meghan Markle may break tradition to choose an American name and throw a baby shower.

And afternoon tea, bottomless champagne and a pain-free experience… labour in the five-star Lindo wing where Meghan Markle might give birth.

On Friday fans had also speculated the 37-year-old was pregnant after she wore a loose-fitting coat to Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank's wedding in Windsor Castle.
