My sister is so obsessed with Christmas that she put our decorations up on November 1 – and she went all out | The Sun

WHEN should one put up the festive decorations has been a lifelong debate, causing many arguments across the world.

But in the eyes of one Christmas enthusiast, everyone should get in the festive Santa mood the second it's 00:01am on 1st November – more than a month before the celebrations.

The TikTok user Amanda (@amandashow22), believed to be from the US, revealed that her sister is such a fan of Christmas, she will start decorating their house just after midnight on the first day of November.

The young woman, who appeared too stunned to speak, shared a video of her sibling going berserk with baubles and lights on TikTok, where social media users praised her.

''Can you tell what her fav time of year is,'' Amanda chuckled in the caption of the now-viral clip.

As the sky was pitch black, the young Christmas fanatic could be seen putting up a humongous tree, filled with bright lights and shiny red baubles hanging from the branches.

Of course, just a Christmas tree is never enough – and the sister rushed to give the stairs a more festive feeling too, wrapping fake tree branches all over.

She also didn't forget about bathroom – here, Amanda demonstrated in the tour, her sister had installed a shower curtain with a Santa and reindeer print.

Whilst shopping for the decorations, it seems she had also found a similar style bath mats that had Santa's face all over them.

Although many might think that the start of November is too early for such activities, TikTok fans loved the obsession.

If you're like Amanda's sister and love putting up decorations weeks before the celebrations, good news – you're more likely to be happier, research shows.

Steve McKeown, psychoanalyst and owner of The McKeown Clinic, told Unilad people who start decorating as soon as they've blown the candle out on their Halloween pumpkin, are driven by nostalgia.

He said: "In a world full of stress and anxiety people like to associate to things that make them happy and Christmas decorations evoke those strong feelings of childhood.

"Decorations are simply an anchor or pathway to those old childhood magical emotions of excitement.

"So putting up those Christmas decorations early extend the excitement."

And Amy Morin, psychotherapist and author of 13 Things Mentally Strong People Don't Do, told Unilad Christmas is a time when people feel more connected to their past, and loved ones they have lost.

"The holidays serve as a reminder of when a loved one was still alive," she said.

"Or maybe looking at a Christmas tree reminds someone of what life was like when they still believed in Santa.

"For people who have lost a loved one, it may serve as a reminder of happy times they had with that person.

"Decorating early may help them feel more connected with that individual."

And past scientific research suggests another theory.

Getting over excited and "vomiting" Christmas all over your front lawn – there's a house in every town – is not garish and obscene.
