Divorce is difficult at any age. But for many facing a midlife or gray divorce (which is on the upswing for married couples over 50), the process of untangling decades of memories, hopes and dreams may look a little different. In this week’s Modern Love, the writer Tina Welling became aware of the distance growing between her and her husband after his refusal to prioritize getting a hearing aid. She then embarks on the path to a loving separation after 52 years of marriage.

Love found on reality TV is often proven to be the kiss of death. In this week’s Vows column, however, Joe Anglim and Sierra Dawn Thomas, who met in 2014 while competing on the 30th season of “Survivor,” beat the odds and eventually won at love.
