'I'm innocent, dominant and mean business’ – what Meghan Markle's New York outfits really revealed

MEGHAN Markle is back with a bang after going on parental leave following the birth of daughter Lilibet in June.

And her outfits during her three-day New York tour with Prince Harry have sent some very clear messages, according to a fashion expert.

The Duchess of Sussex, 40, pulled out all of the fashion steps for her engagements, which included a Covid concert, visiting a school and the UN.

Fashion expert Harriet Davey told Fabulous that Meghan’s outfits told the world that she is “dominant” and “means business” after stepping down as a senior royal…

Black ‘business’ suit – One World Observatory

Harriet said that Meghan “meant business” in this top-to-toe tailored outfit as she visited the One World Observatory, and it’s “far removed from the fitted, colourful outfits she once wore as a royal.”

She said: “Proving she has taken control back over the places she goes, events she attends and outfits she chooses to wear, this look is a true Meghan outfit.

“Even back to the Suits days, Meghan has always loved a pair of powerful, tailored trousers.

"Teaming with a classic The Row roll neck, navy Emporio Armani sleek androgynous coat and towering Aquazzura heels allows Meghan to step into NYC in serious style.”

Red ‘dominant’ coord – Harlem's PS 123 Mahalia Jackson school

We also saw her in a luxurious red £4,275 cashmere coat and matching £1229 pants at Harlem's PS 123 Mahalia Jackson school – and Harriet said the look appeared “dominant.”

The fashion expert explained: “Lady in red, Meghan, makes a case for autumn tonal dressing in this berry ensemble by Loro Piana.

“Standing out in the dominant punchy red outfit, Meghan joins husband Harry in Harlem in the two-piece.

“Different from her outfits over the past few years, but not deviating too far from her staple style, the slouchy fit has an off-duty vibe that compliments her new life away from royal engagements and structured, rule-abiding outfits that fit in with the royal family’s dress code.”

White ‘innocent’ outfit – Covid Concert

When they attended the Global Citizen Live Covid concert in Central Park, Meghan opted for a white Valentino mini dress.

Harriet said: “The shorter hemline, feminine retro cut and embellishment adds a fun, daring edge and the white colour is pure, innocent and represents a new start or new beginnings.

“Meghan also later teamed it with a Dior Lady D-Lite bag, previously worn by her late mother-in-law Princess Diana in 1996, the designer bag was later named after Diana.

“Giving a nod to Harry’s mother is often seen in Meghan’s outfits and shows the connection between both Meghan and Diana’s personal style.”

Brown ‘powerful’ ensemble – United Nations

One of the final stops on the tour was to the UN headquarters, and Meghan was seen in tan-coloured outfit.

Harriet said: “Let’s start with the fact Meghan Markle is the queen of camel coats. Wearing one of her favourite Max Mara iterations, the whole outfit is another powerful look even with the softer neutral colours.

“The tailored silhouette, fuss-free shirt and matching trousers keeps her visit to the UN headquarters professional.

“Completing the look with paired back golden jewels and a structured updo instead of her usual big bouncy blow dry, this look wouldn’t look out of place in a corporate office.”
