I’m a tattoo artist and there are four mistakes people make when getting ink… the wrong design is number one | The Sun

GETTING your first tattoo is an exciting prospect, but many miss some crucial steps before permanently inking their skin.

Now, in a bid to make sure people don’t fall into the same traps, a professional tattoo artist has shared the list of four things to consider when booking an appointment.

Taking to social media, the expert explained that the very first mistake they see novices make is choosing the wrong design.

Sharing a photo of what was meant to be a tiger, viewers were first faced with a design that had the proportions of the animal all wrong. The face was also distorted, with one eye lower down than the other and an elongated, thin nose bridge that made no sense.

The lines across the body were also odd-shaped, making it look nothing like an actual tiger.

And it seems getting the wrong tiger design is a common occurrence as the artist shared a second image, where the animal had rolls on its neck and one eye thicker than the other. The proportions of its face was also all wrong, making it look like a creature from another world.

The two examples made it clear that design-choice is a top priority before booking an appointment.

Second on the list was choosing the wrong place to get the tattoo as they shared a short clip of a man getting a design, which read ‘cool’, printed onto his forehead.

Getting ink in highly visible places can be a risky move.

While you might think it's the right choice in the heat of the moment, 10 or 20 years down the line, you might regret it. And the worst part is, you'll be faced with it everyday in the mirror.

“Wrong healing process,” the expert went on to write as they described the third mistake, explaining that sunbathing is definitely a no.

New tattoos are susceptible to damage as its a fresh wound with no protection on it.

It means that it could burn much faster than healed skin, which could lead to the ink fading, cracking, blistering or peeling.

Another mistake people make when healing their tattoo is swimming in the pool.

As it's still an open wound, going into a pool can increase the chances of getting an infection as submerging in water can expose it to harmful bacteria.

And the final mistake people make is choosing an inexperienced artist. An unsteady hand means they could make a detrimental mistake to an otherwise perfect design, which defeats the whole purpose of getting the tattoo in the first place.

People were quick to comment on TikTok user @clibritatto's post as one person wrote: “I’m so glad that didn’t happen to me”.

Another shared: “Lmao the tigers,” as a third posted four shocked emojis.

Have you made any of these mistakes?
