IT'S quick and easy to reach for a Fruit Shoot when you're out with thirsty kids.

But a health expert has explained they are actually one of the worst things you can give your children to drink, because of the "ugly, horrible" sweeteners they have in them.



Sunna, the CEO of vitamin and wellness company Tonic, regularly shares TikTok videos offering advice to parents who want to keep their kids' sugar intake to a minimum.

In a recent clip, he tackled juice cartons, and insisted you should steer well clear of fruit juice cartons you find in the supermarket.

"It's just fruit juice from concentrate which is filled with tonnes of sugar," he said.

"Per carton is 21 grams of sugar. That's an insane amount.

"That's like five teaspoons of sugar you're feeding your kid when you give them a juice box.

"It's not what you want to do. So avoid all these."

Moving onto Fruit Shoots and other bottled kids squash, he said: "Fruit shoots and all these guys claim no added sugar but they put Acesulfame K and sucralose in there – the same ugly, horrible sweeteners that are gut disruptive and in Diet Coke.

"So you don't want to give that to your kids.

"Any of these in a bottle are basically crap."

Sunna then went on to reveal the surprising winner of his low-sugar kids' drink challenge – Capri Sun.

"Nothing artificial, it's just water, fruit juice and a little bit of Stevia, and that's the way to go," he praised.

"It’s difficult to know which juice boxes to pick for your kids when you’re on the go with so many options on the shelf but be careful, some contain up to 5 teaspoons of sugar per juice box,"he wrote in the video caption.

"I can’t believe capri sun are the best!! Thanks!" one person commented on the video.

"I would’ve thought capri sun would be one of the worst," another added, with Sunna added that it surprised him too.

"Used to be my favourite drink in the whole world surprising it’s the best," a third commented.

"I just knew it was going to be the one my kids don’t like," someone else laughed.
