I'm a gardening guru, you can destroy deep-rooted weeds with this effective method – and it costs nothing

THOSE with gardens know how frustrating pesky weeds can be – no matter how many methods you try nothing seems to get rid of them.

Luckily, for those struggling with these unwelcome tenants in your green space, a gardening guru has revealed an easy trick that will banish them – and not only is it effective but also costs absolutely nothing.

Speaking to The Express, William Mitchel of Sutton Manor Nursery shared what fellow gardening fans can do to remove stubborn weeds for good.

According to the whizz, the best thing you can do is simply “pull them out or dig them up”.

"The cheapest way to get rid of weeds is to simply pull them out or dig them up. This will come at zero cost and is surprisingly effective,'' he said.

In most cases, the weed will not grow back once removed.

However, if they do reappear, ''know that you have a persistent root that needs a more drastic removal process''.

Here, it's important to note, that different types of weeds also require a different removal method – for example, to stop couch grass from spreading avid gardeners should use a garden hand trowel.

For those trying to get rid of perennials such as bindweed or nettles, digging deep using a garden fork and pulling up the whole root is the answer, as tiny pieces left by will over time become new weeds

Weeds can also be “effectively” destroyed by “cutting off their heads before they have the ability to flower”.

William said: “A brilliant and cheap way of getting rid of weeds is by using mulch.

''Mulch is a mixture of shredded leaves, brown cardboard, straw or wood chips and is used to cover the soil around your plants to block weeds from any sunlight that will help them germinate and grow,'' he explained.

Great for retaining moisture, mulch will also suppress weeds and improve the overall quality of the soil.

Before applying mulch, make sure to prepare the soil – this is done by pulling up weeds to help prevent them from growing back once the mulch is put down.

Sharing the tips, William also warned gardening enthusiasts to ''avoid” the “very easy mistake” of watering any weeds in their green space.

“Watering weeds is a very easy mistake to make as you are watering the other plants in your garden.
