Ikea, Nutella and even Princess Eugenie – these are the words you didn’t know you were pronouncing wrong

We all have unique ways of saying certain phrases, but we couldn't believe our eyes (and ears) when we discovered some of these.

In horrifying news, several words and names such as Nutella, Princess Eugenie and even Chrissy Teigen are not being pronounced correctly.

It doesn't stop there, because Ikea and Porsche have also made the list.

From now on, we'll be using the below as a guide.

Did you pronounce these wrong?

Ikea

You might have visited the store millions of times and half your home might be filled with its furniture, but that doesn't mean you're pronouncing Ikea correctly.

Rather than eye-KEY-uh, it's actually ee-KAY-uh.

Mind blown? We know.

Princess Eugenie

When Jack Brooksbank says his wife-to-be's name, Princess Eugenie at the altar next week, don't be surprised if he says it a little differently to the way you've said it your entire life.

Eugenie is actually pronounced YOO-junnee (with the emphasis on the first syllable).

Most people say you-JEAN-knee, which sadly, is incorrect.

28-year-old Eugenie revealed: "Whenever we used to meet foreign people who were struggling with it, my mum and I would help them by saying, ‘It’s like Use Your Knees.’

"But whatever. I am now used to every pronunciation.”

Chrissy Teigen

Yep, Chrissy Teigen made the list too.

Her name is pronounced tie-gen, although most people day tee-gen.

Even Chrissy herself has trouble getting it right.

She tweeted: "Gave up a long time ago.

"[Last] name is tie-gen not tee-gen."

When a follower pointed out that Chrissy herself pronounces her surname as tee-gen, she replied: "I know. I even correct people when they say it correctly. It’s all [very] effed up."

Ariana Grande

It's GRAN-day, right?

Nope, it's actually Gran-DEE.

Ariana could end up taking her fiancé Pete Davidson's surname when they get married, which should make things less confusing.

Nutella

Even if you're the world's biggest fan of the hazelnut chocolate spread, you've probably been pronouncing it wrong this whole time.

Most people would say Nut-ELL-ah but it's actually NEW-tell-uh.

Utterly shocking.

Lindsay Lohan

32-year-old Lindsay Lohan's surname is one of the most commonly mispronounced words.

In fact, we've pronounced it the wrong way for as long as we can remember.

Have you ALWAYS said LOW-han? Shockingly, it's actually LOH-in.

Sriracha

This popular chilli sauce originates from a town named Si Racha in Thailand.

While most people pronounce its name sree-ROTCH-ah (which makes sense considering its spelling) the correct way to say it is SEE-rah-cha.

Chloë Sevigny

Beware of the silent consonants with this one.

The actress' name is commonly mispronounced suh-VIG-nee, but it's actually SEV-uh-nee.

Saoirse Ronan

We have trouble spelling this one never mind pronouncing it.

The name means freedom in Irish Gaelic and according to Saoirse, is pronounced SER-sha.

However, even the actress gets corrected on the tricky moniker.

"A lot of people in Ireland say ‘No, it’s actually SEER-sha; I think you’re saying it wrong,’" she told the BBC.

"So I don’t know."

Porsche

Joey from Friends had it right all along, it IS POOR-sha.

Most people pronounce it PORSCH, which is incorrect.

Earlier this week, we told you about the woman who got so drunk one night that she bought a HOTEL.

We also revealed a man put his girlfriend up for sale on eBay – and her price reached £70,000.
