A WOMAN was left wiping away tears after she tried on a bikini for the first time aged 18.
Rosanna Miller – who had grown up as part of the Amish community before opting for a slightly more independent lifestyle – had always been told she had to cover up and dress modestly.
But, as part of the TLC show Return to Amish, Rosanna tried to bring together her old life and her new – and it wasn’t long before she was in a shop trying on a piece of swimwear for the first time.
Rosanna, who was joined by boyfriend Johnny Detweiler and two friends Jethro Nolt and Fannie Schmucker, headed into the changing rooms clutching the red two-piece.
And when she walked back out – still wearing her traditional Amish bonnet – she was overcome with emotion at her reflection.
As she made her way out to show them what it looked like, she put her hand over her mouth.

She then turned to her loved ones and started to cry, as she couldn’t believe she’d been able to step out in the bikini.
While her friends were quick to compliment Rosanna and tell her that it looked “good” on her and that they “liked it”, her partner at first appeared speechless.
His reaction remained hard to read, but his friend Kenneth said it was clear that he was upset with such a drastic change.
Kenneth said: “Johnny seemed really upset and I get it.

“I wouldn’t want my girlfriend dressed like that in front of other men.”
While their other mate Jeremiah added: “An Amish man wants his woman to stay covered up.
“So naturally, Johnny being an Amish guy, you know, his woman coming out in front of everybody wearing a bathing suit… obviously he’s going to be upset.”
Eventually breaking his silence on Rosanna’s new look, Johnny explained his outlook and why he thought it was “too much.”
Johnny said: “That’s not who I want to be with. That’s not what I want.”
Ahead of the big reveal, one of Rosanna’s pals admitted that he knew it was going to be a pivotal moment for Rosanna.
He explained: “Growing up Amish and always wearing the same clothes, it’s exciting to try on English clothes – it’s something different.”
And speaking after the event, and dressed back in her Amish clothes, Rosanna reflected on what had happened, as well as her boyfriend’s reaction.
She recalled: “I wanted to feel beautiful about myself, and I totally did not feel beautiful about myself because of Johnny.”
Rosanna then explained to him: “That’s why I left the Amish, to go out and do stuff like that.”

Speaking to the camera, Rosanna added: “The Amish, they never shame the men, and they don’t know how it feels. I want to be proud of myself and my body.”
