I spent £10k on my daughter’s seventh birthday party, she had 80 guests, a £400 cake and a ballerina performed

LONG gone are days when a children's party involved getting together in the local playground and tucking into a Colin the Caterpillar cake (if you were lucky).

These days, birthday parties can be just as much for the parents as they are for the kids – and now one mum has revealed how she spent a whopping £10,000 on her daughter's carnival-themed festivities.

Amy Movsisian – who runs events-planning company Arden Events – has been throwing parties for her daughter Melina since she was only six months old.

The Australian mum told news.au: "Every year, we've thrown a party for Melina, the styling has been a bit more luxurious and we take things a lot further."

For her seventh birthday this year, Melina chose a carnival theme and her 80 guests enjoyed a bouncy castle, revolving tea cups ride, pick'n'mix stations and a ballerina who performed throughout the day.

Some of Amy's largest expenses included a £400 birthday cake and the £500 she spent on the pastel balloons which filled the Melbourne venue.

Of course, the mum also hired a professional photographer and videographer to make sure every detail of her daughter's birthday was captured on camera.

While the 50 adults were fed Mediterranean food, Melina's 30 pals could pick from hot dogs, chicken nuggets and chips which were served in pink personalised "Melina's Carnival" boxes.

As everything was carnival-themed, Amy also ensured that there was candy floss and ice cream on offer before serving the 80 guests an incredibly multi-tiered cake with a carousel decoration on top.

On top of the cost of renting out the large space, Amy also spent another £1,000 on a custom pink backdrop, £1,200 on lighting and £360 on pastel tableware for Melina's friends.

Responding to criticism that the parties she throws for Melina are too extravagant, Amy said: "People have judged me for throwing these sorts of parties.

"But I am in the event industry and I want my child to have the best. I would feel so guilty if I threw parties for other children and my child just had her party at McDonalds.

"I am a very creative person and I love parties so Melina's parties are always a good excuse for me to go all out."

In more parenting news, this mum splashed nearly £1,000 on a "Kidchella" party for her daughter's seventh birthday.

And this mum praised Poundland's heart fishes for helping her "picky" daughter who doesn't like her food touching each other.

Plus this genius mum has set up "virtual summer's day walks" for her "clingy" baby and it sends him to sleep in minutes.
