I hated my view so turned my boring balcony into a calm oasis – here’s exactly how I did it | The Sun

A WOMAN who hated the view from her balcony has shared how she turned it into a peaceful garden oasis.

In a series of videos on her TikTok page, she detailed the transformation of the Vancouver balcony – which looks onto a salt mountain – beginning: "So this is my balcony and I don't love the view so I'm planning to transform it into a garden oasis.

"This is my inspiration – very overgrown, European vibes."

She kicked off with some slatted wooden tiles, as she admitted: "I don't know whether to put the tiles vertically or horizontally.

"Right now I'm trying horizontally and we'll see how this looks."

In the next video, she said that she'd decided to go with horizontal because "someone said in my last video that if it were traditional decking, it would be horizontal anyways".

But as she got towards the end, she ran into a "little bit of an issue".

"I put the last tile down that I had and realised I needed one more tile," she sighed.

"One more! So I've got two options.

"I can either cover it up with this pot and other pots or I can just buy a new set of tiles."

People were quick to offer their suggestions in the comments section – including the idea of adding river rocks or a raised garden bed – but she explained she'd decided to get some extra tiles anyway, just in case one of them gets damaged.

"I also decided to replace this terracotta hanging planter with this white one just because there's a lot of terracotta going on at the bottom," she concluded.

While many people were quick to praise her for the makeover, others offered their own suggestions

"I think you should also buy some privacy lattice panels with the greenery, would give you a more enclosed feel," one wrote.

"All the pots on the ground make it look a bit cluttered right now," another mused.

"Maybe more hanging pots or finding a way to replicate the look of raised garden beds."

"Get a more comfy chair maybe small sofa chair home sense do small ones for comfort," a third wrote.

As someone else insisted: "There needs to be a water feature!"
