Half term activities for October 2018 – things to do and what's on during the school break

What to do over half term?

London: ZSL London Zoo

Have your kids unleash their inner wild child at the capital’s zoo, which is running Gruesome Nature Live! this half term.

From October 20 until the 28, the interactive musical show, everyday at 2pm, shares “frightful facts about some truly grisly creatures”.

The singalong adventure is led by ZSL scientist Dr Atrox.

Harry Potter

Every child’s favourite character, Harry Potter, comes alive at the Warner Bros Studio Tour, in Leavesden.

Running until November 10, the studio is putting on a special Dark Arts event.

The tour includes wand duels and you can walk down Diagon Alley.

Bristol: Avon valley Adventure and Wildlife Park

From October 19 until the 31st, Fear is running at Avon Valley Scream Park, in Keynsham.

Now in its fifth year, the spooky event has four mazes, including a new one added this year.

There’s also fire shows, an escape room and street theatre.

Brighton: Sea Life

The aquarium is getting a scary makeover, and is running the ‘Ascarium’ from October 20 until November 4.

Potion ingredients will be hidden around the tanks, and children must find them to progress to the Sea Witch’s lair.

Expect spells and treasure chests in this immersive trail.

Manchester: Dino Falls

The prehistoric-themed adventure golf, in Trafford City,  is bringing back their kids go free offering during half term.

From October 20 until October 28, one under-16 can play for free when accompanied by a paying adult, which costs £8.

Staffordshire: Alton Towers

The theme park is running a Scarefest until November 2.

There’s a CBeebies Monster Ball, and four brand new shows including new character Gretyl the witch.

The Halloween playland has more than 20 rides open at dusk.

Chill Factore

The snow park, in Trafford City, is running lots of activities in the October half term.

There’s snow camps and a snow school to keep kids entertained, and the Snow Park pass includes the Downhill Donuts, Sledge-O-Mania and Luge Slip 'N' Slide.

Birmingham: Cadbury World

From October 20 until November 4, the chocolate factory will get a scary makeover.

Dermot O’Scary will lead The Scream Factor, seeing Frankie Frankenstein, Witchy Woo Woo and Wolfy the Wolfman put on show five times a day.

There will also be a fancy dress competition.

Liverpool: Jedi School

From October 22 until the 26th, kids can learn some Star Wars skills at Seacombe, Wallasay.

The interactive show is returning to Spaceport this half term, with kids learning how to be a Jedi master.

Kent: Dreamland

Get Spooked is back at Dreamland this year, with seven days of scary activities.

They include a maze, a slippery slime factory, and a Halloween-themed costume workshop.

Get Spooked takes place from Saturday October 20 until Sunday October 28.

Children’s TV superhero, PJ masks, will also drop in on October 24.

Newcastle: Adventure Valley

From October 20 until the 31st, the valley will host a Pumpkin Barn complete with a Pumpkin Patch.

Children can carve a masterpiece on the vegetable – which is included in the price of a ticket.

There’s also daily magic shows and a Corn Cob Catapult at the site in Brasside, Durham.

Leeds: Stockeld Park

The park, in Wetherby, is running a Halloween Adventure from October 25 until October 31.

There will be spooky adventures running every day, including a maze, an enchanted forest and a Nordic ski rink.

What are the school holiday and half term dates for the 2018/2019 academic year?

School holiday and term time dates can vary depending on which part of the country you live in.

The dates below are just a rough guide, but check your local council website for the exact dates.
