A MUM signed her adult son's Xbox controller with a sweet inscription before she died.
The woman wrote on her death-bed, "To John, love Mom", with a metallic sharpie onto the electrical device for her him to find after she had passed away.
Her daughter-in-law, John's wife, asked the internet for help preserving the message and stop it being accidentally wiped off.
In a post on Reddit, she asked: "My MIL gifted this to my SO, and signed it the day she passed.
"It's very special to him and signed with metallic sharpie.
"How can we protect the writing?"
The query received over 2,000 responses as people tried to help the grieving couple.
Most suggested they keep the controller in a special place and purchase a new device for daily use.
One person wrote: "A new controller will never cost as much as this memory."
Another, who revealed they worked in a museum, commented: "Don’t put any kind of coating on it.
"Most 'clear coats' will discolour over time, and will eventually yellow, flake, or otherwise deteriorate."
"Museum-grade storage and display items are readily available though they can be pricey depending upon what you need.
"Until you can get something, keep it in its case and somewhere safe with minimal temperature changes."
Meanwhile, a third user suggested: "Doesn’t Microsoft do a ton of custom colour layouts on their controllers?
"Perhaps they can help create a replica that the guy can actually play with. Might be worth a shot."
