Do you drink too much? Take this test to find out – it counts up the calories too

While most of us know we drink more in the festive season, do you really know just how much you are drinking?

TAKE THE TEST HERE Find out how much booze you really drink AND how many calories it is

Between the Christmas parties, family gatherings, catch ups with friends and the hard-to-resist temptation of mulled wine at a Christmas market, it doesn't take long for your alcohol units to skyrocket.

Luckily, Public Health England and Drinkaware have come up with a handy online calculator that will tell you if you drink too much.

The quiz starts off asking your age and how much you drink each week.

It then asks you how many glasses of different types of tipple – beer, wine, spirits – you had that week.

You'll also be asked the days of the week you usually drink.

Once you've put in all the information it will tell you how much you drink compared to people in other areas of the country, and how many units you drink.

It will also tell you how many calories that is, which is fairly shocking if you drink a lot.

Official guidelines recommend that we shouldn't drink more than 14 units of alcohol per week.

That's the equivalent of six pints or medium glasses of wine… so probably not as much as you think, is it?

Drinking too much of your favourite tipple comes with a range of both short- and long-term risks.

People who binge-drink are more likely to engage in risky behaviour – and that's how accidents happen.

And long-term alcohol misuse (drinking more than the recommended amount) can lead to heart disease, stroke, liver disease and some types of cancer, including bowel and liver cancer.
