Asda roll out vegan cheese option on pizza counters in stores nationwide

Vegan’s rejoice – Asda is bringing vegan cheese to its pizza counters this autumn.

The move comes as the supermarket giant attempts to offer more choice for the growing number of consumers switching to a vegan lifestyle.

Inspired by two young lactose intolerant sisters wanting to make their own pizzas at the Asda Glasshoughton counter. Asda staff encouraged them to create their own using Asda’s Free-from Cheddar. From there the concept was born and is now being rolled out to all stores.

The cheese – a coconut oil-based mozzarella – comes loaded on a crispy vegan base and customers can choose from a wide range of fresh toppings.

At £2.30, vegan options will cost the same as normal pizzas on sale, and are now available on all pizza counters nationwide.

Speaking about the new addition Nick Robinson, from Asda said, “We know there’s an ever-growing demand for vegan food products, and we’re committed to catering for any dietary requirement. Our counter pizzas have proven extremely popular over the years, so it made sense for us to extend the range with a vegan offering at the same price as our other pizza counter pizzas, so nobody misses out on a slice of the action.”

The news follows Asda’s plans to sell a vegan cheeseboard for Christmas this year .

The festive board will cost £5 and include three different types of plant-based cheese: a traditional cheddar style vegan cheese, a garlic and chive cheddar and a Wensleydale and cranberry alternative.

But shoppers will have to wait until 22 November before they can get their hands on it in stores.

Last year the supermarket giant also launched vegan mince pies over the festive season, which we are sure will be a hit this year too when they hit shelves later this autumn.
