Asda launch colour-changing gin to rival Aldi’s version – and it’s in stores now

Asda has unveiled a brand new colour-changing gin – hot on the heels of budget retailer Aldi.

The supermarket giant is exclusively stocking Empress 1908 Gin in the UK following its introduction in Canada and the US last year.

The deep indigo hued spirit magically turns pink when mixed with tonic caused by the magical butterfly pea flower ingredient it is distilled with.

Anyone wanting to create showstopping cocktails at home this winter will love the new tipple, which has hints of juniper, rose, coriander seed, grapefruit peel, ginger root and cinnamon bark.

The new spirit looks set to be a popular choice with shoppers in the run up to Christmas, and is being sold for £38.50 in stores and online at asda.com .

Speaking about the new launch, Asda Spirits Buyer Ryan Ormrod said: “Gin is a much-loved British icon, and with the addition of colour-changing qualities, we know our customers will go wild for the new bottles as we help whet their appetites for quality, novelty gin.

“Empress 1908 Gin saw widespread love when launched overseas last year, so we’re excited to be the first British supermarket to offer the mystical drink at an affordable price, perfect for gifting throughout autumn.”

But the move comes hot off the heels of budget chain Aldi releasing their own colour-changing gin earlier this year.

Aldi’s version also changes from blue to pink due to the incredible colour-changing properties of a special ingredient – an extract from the Asian butterfly flower.

The limited edition £19.99 gin had previously only been available in Scotland, but the chain has since announced it will be selling the gin nationwide from 15 October.
