X Factor’s Tracyleanne Jefford says tanning ‘addiction’ caused skin cancer

X Factor’s Tracyleanne Jefford was diagnosed skin cancer in April.

The 35-year-old has basal cell carcinoma (BCC), a common type of skin cancer, on her nose and is now facing an operation to remove a 10 pence-sized chunk from her nose, as well as reconstructive surgery.

And Tracyleanne, who appeared on X Factor in 2017, has now blamed her tanning “addiction” for giving her skin cancer.

The reality show star told The Sun: “I struggled with my appearance for years.

“Having a bit of colour made me feel good about myself. It gave me more confidence.

“So I was going on the sunbeds every single day for about 15 minutes.

“When I look back it, I say to myself, ‘How foolish were you?’

“When I saw stories in the paper about someone getting skin cancer from sunbeds I’d think, ‘Aw dear girl’. I thought it’d never happen to me.”

The mum-of-three said she noticed a lump on her nose around a year ago but ignored it until her sister urged her to go to a doctor.

Tracyleanne recalled the moment she received the devastating diagnosis, admitting that it gave her a nervous breakdown.

The singer has previously lost many family members to cancer.

Fortunately, BCC can be cured when treated appropriately and tends not to spread to other parts of the body.

However, Tracyleanne is now trying to cope with the idea that her face will never be the same again as doctors have warned her she’ll be scarred for life.

Tracyleanne originally auditioned for X Factor in 2006 and came back in 2017 with a new look.

During her time on the show, she successfully made it to the live-show performances and was mentored by Nicole Scherzinger.

Before the judges, she revealed she had recently lost over five stone in weight and was living a new healthy lifestyle following a divorce from her husband.
