‘Wicked Tuna’ star William ‘Willbilly’ Hathaway, 36, dead from car crash

“Wicked Tuna” cast member William “Willbilly” Hathaway died over the weekend in a fatal car crash.

He was 36.

According to local news outlets, who confirmed with Maryland State Police, Hathaway was driving in Salisbury, Md., on Saturday afternoon when he swerved into a ditch to avoid a car that turned in front of him.

He reportedly called his wife and said he was unharmed, but when police arrived, he was unconscious. He was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. WBOC16 reports police are still investigating.

A Facebook fundraiser has been set up by the Ocean City fishing community.

“He was an exceptional human being whose passion was the sea,” the Facebook page reads. “He always brightened the day of anyone he met. His wife and newborn baby girl he was most proud of. Due to his untimely death we are asking for donations to help them stay on their feet while trying to survive this tragedy.”

So far, over $58,000 has bee raised.

Hathaway is survived by his daughter, Molly Jean, and his wife Mary Malone Hathaway.

Hathaway was not the first cast member on the National Geographic Channel show to pass away in 2018. Earlier this year 28-year-old Nicholas “Duffy” Fudge also died, although his cause of death was not released.
