‘I think it could last forever!’ Ulrika Jonsson reveals she still believes in marriage after three husbands as she praises new ‘no-fault’ divorces for making process less ‘painful’
Ulrika Jonsson has praised the introduction of ‘no-fault divorces’ in the UK, while revealing she still believes in marriage after three husbands.
The single mother-of-four, 54, – who has previously wed Brian Monet, Lance Gerrard-Wright and John Turnbull – said she still think a relationship could ‘last forever’.
She also lauded the new divorce law shake up which means couples can now jointly submit an application to end their marriage rather than blaming one person, saying it will make the process less ‘painful’.

On Wednesday’s Lorraine, she shared: ‘When you enter into marriage, you believe it at that moment it is going to last forever… It’s a really difficult decision, so why make it even more difficult and more painful?’
In the new legislation coming into effect today, which is the biggest shake up of the divorce laws in 50 years, couples can now make the process more neutral as the blame element is removed.
Ulrika, who has gone through the divorce process three times, said it’s been a ‘nightmarish’ experience having to apportion blame in the past.

Speaking to presenter Ranvir Singh, Ulrika explained, ‘I was lucky in two of my divorces where I was able to sit down with my exes and decide on the reasons for the divorce because I felt it had been nightmarish enough to go through.
‘No one wakes up one morning and decides they’re going to get divorced.
‘It’s something that takes a long time, a decision that you sit with for a long time – to then have to create animosity by blaming somebody in a legal document just creates much more antagonism.’

Ranvir then asked about the impact Ulrika’s divorces had on her children, and if the new legislation would have made things any easier.
‘My children were kept very much apart from that and it was something I was dealing with my husbands, but inevitably, the stress of having to go through a divorce and going through a legal process like this, no matter how supposedly straightforward it is, it’s quite scary,’ she said.
‘And if I’m stressed, that’s going to impact on my children. It created stress for me and anxiety for me and the children will feed off that.’

Ranvir then asked if she still believes in marriage to which she replied: ‘Mine happened over a period of 32 years. I still believe in marriage, I still think it could last forever. This new law doesn’t serve to undermine marriage.’
Ulrika has been single since her 2019 divorce from third husband Brian Monet after the pair parted ways after ten years together. They have one son, Malcolm, 13.

The presenter’s second marriage in 2003 was to Lance Gerrard-Wright who, at the time, was a contestant on her TV show Mr Right.
They share a daughter, Martha, 17.
The mother-of-four also has a daughter, Bo, 21, with ex-boyfriend hotelier, Marcus Kempen, who she separated from in 2000 after two years.
Last week Ulrika revealed she hasn’t ruled out getting frisky in the bedroom with two strangers as she admitted she’s open to the idea of having a threesome.

The television presenter made the declaration in her column for The Sun on Friday after watching Channel 4’s Open House – The Great Sex Experiment this week, with the programme’s couples going on a retreat to consider adding a third person to their romps.
Ulrika admitted she’d struggle to bring another party into a serious relationship she was involved in but insisted she’d ‘never say never’ when it comes to the prospect of a night of passion with more than one stranger.
She wrote in her column: ‘The prospect of watching a person I love and care for swing from the chandelier or perform bedroom gymnastics with another person would break me.’
She added: ‘For this old bird, I think I’d just stick to two in in a relationship. Sometimes three is just a messy, emotional, damaging crowd. Having said that, never say never.’

1990 – John Turnbull
Ulrika’s first marriage was to cameraman John, however things ended in tears after five years when she cheated on him. She blamed her actions on her ages, as she previously said: ‘I was so young. I didn’t know myself. I did some not very nice things. I was unfaithful, which is more than not nice’.
1996 – Hunter
Shortly after her divorce, Ulrika sought comfort in the arms of Gladiator’s star James Crossley, after meeting while she acted as host on the show. After their romance, she said: ‘Well, I guess I was infatuated with James. It was a physical thing. And what a nice man he turned out to be’ – as she referenced him selling stories about their romance to the papers.
1998 – Stan Collymore
Ulrika dated former footballer Stan for a year however their relationship was marred with controversy when she was a victim of domestic abuse.
2000 – Markus Kempen
German hotel boss Markus Kempen was her next love and the father of her daughter Bo, now 18. Just days after Bo was born in November 2000, the businessman told his girlfriend that he was leaving the UK to find work abroad – Ulrika hadn’t even taken their child home from the hospital by then.
2002 – Lance Gerrard-Wright
Husband number two Lance was supposed to be the prize for the female contestants on Mr Right, a 2002 TV dating show she presented. They married in 2003. She had their daughter Martha in 2004 and they separated in 2005.

Ulrika and the football manager stunned the sport and showbiz world when she confirmed widely-publcised reports of an affair between the duo while he was dating Nancy Dell’Olio. As a result of the affair she was given a column in The News Of The World in 2003 where she would frequently comment on his private life. She was dropped in 2007 after he left as England manager.
2007 – Brian Monet
Ulrika and Brian tied the knot in 2008 and share one son, Malcolm, 10. They began their relationship in 2006. In 2014, Brian also adopted her daughter Bo, now 18, from the presenter’s relationship with German hotel boss Markus
