Twitter Rips the NFL for Choosing Maroon 5 As 2019 Super Bowl Halftime Performers

“Maroon 5 to play at an Atlanta Super Bowl halftime show?” one Twitter user wrote. “This is the real reason we should boycott the NFL.”

Twitter users are railing on Maroon 5 and the NFL after it was reported that the band will be performing at the 2019 Super Bowl halftime show.

According to Variety, the "Girls Like You" singers will be gracing the stage at the annual football championship game at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia this February. Although the pop-rock band is wildly popular, many were angry that a hip-hop act wasn’t chosen for the show, as Atlanta is home to artists such as Future, Ludacris, Migos, and Outkast.

"Is there a ‘band’ more generic, caucasian, and corporate than Maroon 5?" a Twitter user wrote. "I seriously can’t think any other act who depresses me more."

"Maroon 5 to play at an Atlanta Super Bowl halftime show?" another said. "This is the real reason we should boycott the NFL."

Another user wrote that it would make sense for Maroon 5 to play for the Super Bowl if there had "never been a single musical act from Atlanta."

Maroon 5 will follow Justin Timberlake’s performance last year, Lady Gaga in 2017, and the Coldplay, Beyonce, Bruno Mars mash-up of 2016. Other previous acts include Katy Pery, Madonna, and The Black Eyed Peas.
