The Voice judge credited his age-defying physique to a healthy diet and lots of exercise, as he revealed he has employed a trainer to help him.

Sir Tom said his trainer puts him through his paces with boxing exercises and stretches, which act as a ‘good cardiovascular workout’ for him.

He also revealed that he now only occasionally enjoys a glass of wine or a pint with dinner, after cutting down on his intake of booze.

The legendary singer also told how he practices inversion therapy, where people are suspended upside down to stretch the spine and relieve back pain.

He said: ‘In 2030 I am going to be 90 years old. I hang upside down. You know on one of those frames. It’s great. You put your feet in the thing and you flip and you hang.’

The therapy is also said to be beneficial for those who suffer with poor circulation, sciatica and scoliosis.

Sir Tom was previously forced to cancel two concerts in 2018 after coming down with a bacterial infection while he cancelled his US tour in 2017 following medical advice.

However the TV star has been looking after his health in recent weeks, and received the coronavirus vaccine.

He told the publication: ‘I’ve had the jab already. That’s one good thing about being 80, you’re first in line for the jab.’

It comes after Tom joked he is now ‘bulletproof’ after receiving both coronavirus vaccines and said it’s ‘a great feeling’.

The crooner appeared on a recent episode of The Graham Norton Show and told the host he’s disappointed he still can’t perform any live shows for the time being.

He said: ‘I’ve had the two and I’m now bulletproof! It’s a great feeling. I thought, “I’ll be able to go out and do some live shows now,” but then I thought, “You’ve got to have an audience for that!” If they haven’t had the jab, what’s the point.’

Asked if he still enjoys performing, Tom said: ‘I love it. I sing around the house; I sing even when I don’t get paid for it! I love to sing; I really do and any chance I have to get up and sing I will.’
