This Is the Reason Why the Royals Are Cracking Up in Prince Charles's Birthday Portrait

Earlier this month, Kensington Palace released a series of adorable snapshots featuring the royal family for Prince Charles’s 70th birthday, and one photo in particular really stole our hearts.

In the aforementioned portrait, Prince Charles, his wife, Camilla, two sons, Prince Harry and Prince William, daughter-in-laws Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, and the future monarch’s grandchildren — George, Charlotte, and Louis — are cracking up, but not for the camera’s sake.

It turns out that the Cambridge’s nanny, Maria Borrallo, was standing next to photographer Chris Jackson making funny faces, according to Us Weekly. While waving to get the children’s attention, Borrallo managed to get the entire family to burst out into laughter.

As a result, we have one of the most relatable royal photos to date, with the newest member of the family Meghan Markle, bending over in a fit of giggles. Also, Camilla pointing into the distance makes a lot more sense given the context.

Borrallo has been previously compared to a modern-day Mary Poppins given her devotion to the Cambridge children. “Maria loves the children dearly,” a source told People in July. “She can be firm and strict, but she is very loving and soft with them too.”

If Borrallo can get the whole British monarchy to laugh at her jokes, we’d say she’s a keeper.
