This 'Bachelorette' Contestant’s Dog Food Jingle Is His Proudest Achievement

When it comes to The Bachelorette, it’s not uncommon to call the occasional man a dog. But in Monday night’s episode of the dating show, the future of Hannah Brown’s budding romance with Jed Wyatt hinged on actual dog food.

During the meet-the-parents portion of the episode, musician Jed found himself explaining his profession to Hannah’s family, and justifying how he would be able to support Hannah while also working on his songwriting career… and her dad was less than impressed.

“At this point, my most major accomplishment is that I’ve signed a deal with a dog food company,” Jed told Robert Brown. “I’ve already written their jingle and that’s been like my first real breakthrough.”

He was referring, of course, to a recent commercial for Better Bowl, which the company shared on social media last month:

Robert told his daughter that he didn’t think she should have to “settle,” heavily implying that he thinks she’s too good for Jed. Later on, Jed told Hannah: “I just don’t think he understands the other stuff that I do… I didn’t go into vast detail, but it’s not like I only know how to do music.”

Hannah’s dad wasn’t the only person to express their concerns that the life of a jobbing musician might not be conducive to the typical stable, matrimonial happy ending promised by The Bachelorette. Hannah visited Jed’s family in Tennessee (where she was given quite a frosty reception), and Jed’s mother didn’t pull any punches with her honesty about where Jed’s priorities should be.

“You don’t get a diploma to be a musician,” she said. “Jed’s had to have jobs, and had to try to create time and space to do his music. It’s his heart and it’s his soul. He couldn’t go to work full-time and do music, you know? So his path is different, it’s very different.”

How does the old saying go? If music be the (dog) food of love, play on.
