The British-Irish group went on an indefinite hiatus in 2014 following five years together and released a statement at the time explaining that they were temporarily splitting to ‘pursue personal endeavours’ after completing their Word of Mouth Tour.

The statement read: ‘…. This tour will be their last for a while as Tom, Max, Jay, Siva and Nathan have collectively decided to take time to pursue personal endeavours following the tour’s conclusion.

‘The band wants to stress to their fans that they will continue on as The Wanted and look forward to many successful projects together in the future.

‘They thank their fans for their continued love and support and look forward to seeing them on tour.

Thrilled: The boyband sent fans into overdrive on Thursday when they changed their profile picture and cover image on Facebook

Yet, the band hadn’t showed any sign of coming off their hiatus until now, six years after first announcing the news, and have left fans in a tizzy on social media over the news.

One loyal fan shared: ‘The Wanted updating their profile pic n cover photo on Facebook????? If this doesn’t mean a reunion I’m actually gonna scream’.

‘IF THE WANTED ARE DOING A 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY IM GONNA CRY,’ another penned.

A third wrote: ‘erm the wanted have changed their profile picture this is not a drill this BETTER NOT BE A DRILL. COULD THEY BE COMING BACK’.

In a telling 2014 interview, Max, 31, revealed the real reason behind their break was due to growing tensions after he and Nathan, 27, pushed for a hiatus, despite Tom, 31, Siva, also 31, and Jay’s, 29, fierce opposition.

He told the Sun on Sunday: ‘There has been a lot of tension. Our personal lives drove us apart. We used to be such a brotherly pact, but it started to feel like it wasn’t The Wanted anymore.’

‘As upsetting as it might be to some of the other guys, I have to live my life. Me and Nathan have been just as loyal to this project as anyone else – sometimes you just have to be realistic.’

At the time, the group had been axed by their record label Universal, with Max revealing the boys had to sit down and have an ‘open and honest conversation’ about their future without a label.

Hitting the right notes: Nathan went on to have a solo career and released his debut album in 2016. (Pictured in 2016)

Glee: Max turned to acting in 2015 when the group disbanded and appeared in the sixth season of Glee

Following their announcement, Max and Nathan were both signed by Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun as solo artists.

In 2015, Nathan embarked on a solo career and his debut single Kiss Me Quick landed in the UK top ten.

He then released his debut album Unfinished Business, which featured two guest appearances from rapper G-Eazy and ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande.

After signing to Creative Artists Agency in Los Angeles, Max put his energy into acting and most notably made an appearance in Glee season six, which aired in 2015.

Winner: Jay went on to win Strictly Come Dancing in 2015 with professional partner Aliona Vilani

Yet, Max, who previously dated Michelle Keegan and Nina Adgal, turned his attention to singing and released his first solo single Barcelona in 2018 and then the 2019 follow-up Better On Me.

Following the hiatus, Jay went on to win Strictly Come Dancing in 2015 with professional partner Aliona Vilani. His Pulp Fiction-inspired jive is still regarded as one of the best dances in Strictly history by judges and fans alike.

He has since carved out a career for himself on the West End and most recently appeared in Rip It Up alongside fellow Strictly stars; McFly’s Harry Judd, JLS’ Ashton Merrygold and Olympic gymnast Louis Smith.

Break: In a telling 2014 interview, Max, 31, admitted that growing tensions in the band was the real reason behind their break (Pictured in 2014)

Elsewhere, Tom welcomed a first child, a girl named Auerlia Rose, with wife Kelsey Hardwick last July and Siva appeared with Jay on Channel 4’s Celebrity Hunted in 2018.

In June last year, Max admitted the Glad You Came hitmakers were in a ‘good place’ before they went their separate ways and hinted that they would have a ‘conversation’ within the next year to see if they can reunite.

The singer, who is currently dating Stacey Giggs, told BANG Showbiz: ‘I don’t see why not, I’ve always said that I’d do [a reunion with The Wanted] it.

‘I haven’t spoken to a couple of the lads in four years so I don’t know where their heads are at. Me certainly, and I know one or two of the other lads would probably do it, so we might have a conversation in the next year.’
