The Sopranos alum Steven Van Zandt was ‘addicted’ to threesomes in the Seventies: ‘It was a real sexually-liberated time’

The Sopranos alum Steven Van Zandt ‘developed a temporary addiction to ménages à trois’ in the Seventies when he was a guitarist for E Street Band.

‘It was a real sexually-liberated time,’ the 70-year-old rocker told Page Six on Tuesday.

‘The seventies, there’s never been anything quite like it, honestly. It was just a wild, wild time, and women were truly, truly liberated there for a minute. I mean, it was a really wonderful time to be alive. So, you know, ménages à trois [were] not that unusual.’

That is, until Little Richard officiated Steven’s wedding to Maureen Santoro on New Year’s Eve in 1982, and they’re still going strong.

Van Zandt (born Lento) discusses his sex life, marriage, and more in his 416-page memoir Unrequited Infatuations, which was published Tuesday.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer enjoyed a career renaissance in 1999 when he made his acting debut as consigliere Silvio Dante in HBO’s The Sopranos.

Creator David Chase originally wanted Steven to star as mob boss Tony Soprano, but he recommended they cast James Gandolfini instead. 

The 70-year-old rocker (pictured in 1969) told Page Six on Tuesday: ‘It was a real sexually-liberated time. The seventies, there’s never been anything quite like it, honestly. ‘I’d seen [Gandolfini] in a few movies, and I thought he was fantastic. True Romance and Get Shorty, you know, I’d seen him, and he stood out to me,’ Van Zandt said.

‘Eventually, the right thing happened. Thank goodness.’

The Massachusetts-born, New Jersey-raised musician won two SAG Awards for best ensemble in a drama series during his six seasons on the hit show.

‘Little’ Steven went on to score acting roles in The Irishman, The Christmas Chronicles, and Lilyhammer.

Van Zandt (pictured August 22) said: ‘It’s a bit annoying to be more famous than you are rich. I don’t want to be. I’m not a complainer. I’m not whining. There’s nothing worse than a whining rock star’

‘Very few people make the transition from music to acting, and I was just completely accepted by that world, which was really, really encouraging,’ Van Zandt noted.

But, you know, people think, like, when trying to raise money for various causes, they look at me, like, you know, “Why don’t you pay for it? What are you asking me for money for?”‘

The Underground Garage host will next be interviewed by his lifelong BFF and ‘Boss’ Bruce Springsteen about the tell-all in a livestream starting Tuesday night at 8pm EST.

Steven will also host signings this Wednesday in Manhattan, Thursday online, Friday in Los Angeles, and Sunday in New Jersey.
