The Lion King is expected to have a roaring $200 million opening weekend after taking in $78.5 million on Friday alone

It’s been one of the most anticipated live-action Disney remakes to date. 

And The Lion King is expected to slash box office records this weekend, after taking in a reported $78.5 million on Friday.

Following behind the CGI flick was 2017’s Beauty and The Beast, which earned a weekend debut of $175 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Additionally, The Lion King has already surpassed the remake of Aladdin, which premiered in May to $91.5 million.

Although The Lion King will break Disney remake records, it likely won’t take on the the final Avengers installment, which claimed $357.1 million during its opening weekend earlier this year. 

Still, the film’s opening is impressive, despite its lackluster reviews from critics, which proves nostalgia wins in the end.

Disney has been on a role with its remakes as of late. 

In addition to Aladdin, Dumbo premiered this year as well. 

2010 saw the live-action version of Alice in Wonderland, while 2015 claimed Cinderella. The Jungle Book debuted in 2016, followed by Beauty and the Beast.

The rumored cast includes Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton and Harry Styles as the dreamy Prince Eric. 

Awkwafina will star as Scuttle, while Jacob Tremblay as Flounder.
