The Great Celebrity Bake Off: Alexandra Burke wins Star Baker after coming top in two challenges as Daisy Ridley jokes she’s the ‘dunce in the corner’ following shortbread blunder
Alexandra Burke was named Star Baker in Tuesday night’s episode of the Great Stand Up To Cancer Bake Off.
The singer, 32, came top in two of the three challenges as she competed against Daisy Ridley, Tom Allen and Rob Beckett during the show.
Alexandra did well in both the Showstopper challenge and the Technical, while the Star Wars actress, 28, claimed she was the ‘dunce in the corner’ following a series of blunders, including a failed batch of Banoffee shortbread.

After succeeding, Alexandra gushed: ‘Yes! I just won! like I literally I cant even speak.’
When she looked at the Star Baker apron she was given as her prize she said it was ‘cute’ and asked if the others could sign it so she could frame it in her home.
The quartet’s first task was to make 12 millionaire shortbread for judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood to give their thoughts on.
Daisy made a vegan Banoffee batch, while Alexandra chose to make a Jamaican-inspired rum and raisin shortbread, Tom created orange and ginger delicacies, and Rob tried to create a Ferrero Rocher-inspired hazelnut and chocolate dish.

She tried: Daisy made a vegan Banoffee batch, but struggled as it had both not set ‘and frozen’ and she said: ‘Oh I’m the person that everybody laughs at!’
Amusingly, the group struggled with making sure their batch was able to set before they ran out of time, with Tom’s momentarily freezing to the bottom of the freezer.
He said in a panic: ‘It’s frozen to the bottom, would it be possible for Prue and Paul to judge it in the freezer?’
Luckily he was able to get it out, but Daisy and Alexandra also struggled as the Star Wars actresses batch had both not ‘set’ and was frozen.
Daisy said: ‘Mine has just completely melted. Oh I’m the person that everybody laughs at!’
Delighted: After winning, Alexandra gushed: ‘Yes! I just won! like I literally I cant even speak’
Participated: At the end of the show, Daisy said: ‘I’m the dunce in the corner with the bad cake, but I had an amazing time, and even if I’m not good at baking I’m happy to be involved’
Alexandra said of her batch: ‘I think I was on a roll and then I became a hot mess!’
During the walk through, Daisy put her lightsaber skills to the test as she used a rolling pin to show off her Jedi moves to Paul, who was delighted with them.
In the technical challenge, the celebrities had to make four uniform vegan chocolate and raspberry tarts using instructions from Prue.
Tom struggled after misreading the instructions and not using enough chocolate for his ganache, which meant it was too watery when put in the tart.
Strong with the force: During the walk through, Daisy put her lightsaber skills to the test as she used a rolling pin to show it off to Paul, who was delighted with the Jedi moves
He admitted: ‘It’s been a nightmare, what happened is I misread the instructions, its too thin, I think it’s gone wrong.’
Daisy, meanwhile, realised she had a soggy bottom as she hadn’t baked her tarts for long enough in the oven, but kept positive as she said: ‘They look good, I am sad about the soggy bottom but it can’t be helped.’
Rob hilariously decided not to reheat his ganache before putting it into the tart, like everyone else was doing, and instead made ‘cow pats’ with his hands.
Explaining his reasoning he said: ‘I’m going to use the heat of my hand and make it a burger and put it in… mine looks like a cow pat!’

Taking a risk: Rob Beckett hilariously decided not to reheat his ganache before putting it into the tart, like everyone else was doing, and instead made ‘cow pats’ with his hands
Paul and Prue were not best pleased with his decision, as he came bottom in the technical with Alexandra earning the top spot.
When asked why he did what he did, Rob claimed: ‘I thought I’d take a chance, I thought I’d make it into a cow pat.’
For the showstopper challenge, the stars had to make a cake that represented what annoys them the most.
Daisy tried to make a cake in the shape of a toilet with the seat left up, but found she struggled with shaping the dessert and putting the fondant icing on it.
Oh dear: Paul and Prue were not best pleased with Rob’s decision, as he came bottom in the technical with Alexandra earning the top spot
After their time was up, she said in annoyance: ‘What a hot mess, [I’m the] absolute token joke of the group!’
Alexandra made a cake that featured her now-ex Angus MacDonald, as she said it annoyed her when he got into bed after a match and messed up her clean sheets.
She claimed: ‘When my partner comes to see me I always have fresh sheets for him, one time he came after a football match and jumped into the sheets.’
Prue quipped: ‘Without washing? Some people would kill for that.’
But Alexandra wasn’t best pleased, as she said ‘actually it really annoys me.’
Last round: For the showstopper challenge the stars made a cake of what annoys them the most, and Alexandra made a cake (pictured) inspired by her now-ex Angus MacDonald
Inspiration: Making a cake of him in bed after he’d messed it up, Alexandra said Angus’ habit ‘really annoys’ her, but when they tried it out Prue gushed that it tasted like ‘heaven’
Both Rob and Tom opted to make car-themed cakes, with Rob doing a cake in the shape of a diversion sign and Tom making a mini car cake with a blown sugar horn to represent driver’s beeping at him.
Alexandra was given high praise for her creation, as Prue gushed it was ‘heaven’ and Paul said it had been baked well and she’d done a great job.
Despite the way his cake looked, Tom was also complemented by the judges, as Paul said: ‘That is delicious, absolutely delicious.’
Daisy, sadly, was told that she had once again over mixed her cake, but Paul said that the flavours were still good.

Rob was given kudos for his first try at baking a cake, and while Paul said the sponge was ‘a bit dry’ he admitted the flavours were still good.
After receiving the judges comments, Daisy said: ‘I’m the dunce in the corner with the bad cake, but I had an amazing time, and even if I’m not good at baking I’m happy to be involved.’
Co-host Noel Fielding was not on hand to take part in the show, and Matt Lucas told the celebrities at the start of the show: ‘Noel has recently become a father again so its just me for the next couple of episodes.’
He then joked: ‘I’m a bit upset he didn’t have the baby with me but that’s my own issue to get through.’

Other stars set to take part in show includes James McAvoy, Jade Thirlwall, Nadine Coyle and Stacey Dooley, amongst others.
Each episode sees four celebrities battle it out over three rounds – the Signature, the Technical and the Showstopper – in a bid to be crowned Star Baker.
Across five episodes, the celebrities will be doing their bit in aid of Stand Up To Cancer, a joint national fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel 4.
Sarah Lazenby, head of formats and features at Channel 4, said: ‘What we all need right now is more joy.
First go: Rob made his first ever cake during the Showstopper challenge, and chose to make one in the shape of a diversion sign
So close: While Rob’s shortbread earned him a Hollywood handshake and his cake was given praise, ultimately his placing in the bottom of the technical meant Alexandra was the winner
‘Bake Off is serving up yet another dollop of fun courtesy of some very willing celebrities. We can’t promise a huge helping of baking inspiration, but we can deliver some much-needed laughs.’
Kieran Smith, executive producer of Bake Off creators Love Productions, said: ‘Bake Off is extremely proud to support Stand Up To Cancer.
‘It has been a difficult year for charities and we sincerely hope that this series will offer a lot of fun, but also some much-needed funds in the fight against cancer.’
Stand Up To Cancer has raised more than £62 million, funding 55 clinical trials and projects involving 11,000 cancer patients across the country, Channel 4 said.
Going solo: Matt was without his co-host Noel Fielding in the Bake Off tent, and he joked: ‘I’m a bit upset he didn’t have the baby with me but that’s my own issue to get through’
